The minute I see him I put my head back down again, despite the fact that he is blatantly staring at me. When I look up again, he is walking over to me with his hands in his pockets, not taking his eyes off me. When he gets nearer I decide not to be scared of him, and look him straight in the eye.
He stops in front of me, and opens his mouth to speak to me, but then closes it again.
“Hello?” I say to him.
“Look Lily, I get that maybe I was a bit harsh on you, but I couldn’t bare seeing Calum so hurt and I was angry,”
“It’s fine Ashton, I was a bitch,”
“Don’t swear, and no you weren’t, you were just stupid,”
“Why are you being nice to me?”
“Luke told me you have been sitting by yourself and wondering around Sydney at the middle of the night,”
“When you put it like that I sound a whole lot crazier than I am,”
“Whatever, me and Luke are just worried about you and we honestly do care about you,”
“Thanks Ash,”
“It’s ok, just stay away from Calum and Michael, they are still pissed off,”
“Yeah sure, is Calum, um, okay?”
He gives me a pitying look, “He’ll get over it, we’re young, we make mistakes, it’s normal,”
“If you’re sure?”
“I am, but are you really ok? Like at school, do you have any, um friends?”
I scoff “Nope,”
He looks at me sadly and then surprises me by drawing me into a tight friendly hug, his arms wrapped around my waist and chin resting on my neck.
“You don’t deserve this,”
“Oh but I really do,” I mutter, not loud enough for him to hear.
After the match I get home to an empty house, seeing as my mum is out with some friends and my brother is doing another soccer match which I couldn’t be bothered to watch.
The sun is shining down extremely strongly today so I decide to go on a long walk in an attempt to get a darker tan. I leave my bag at home and start walking, with only my phone in my pocket and a few coins.
While I walk, I always have a tendency to overthink everything. And as I was walking, all I could think about was how many people I have hurt, and how many people actually cared about me. I began to feel sorry for myself, but tried to brush the negative thoughts off.
I walk very far and am very far from home, on the other side of town, when I decide to get a drink, so I quickly go into McDonalds and buy one, and before I leave I quickly go to the bathroom. And of course, with my luck I discover it is my time of month, the one time I don’t have my bag with me. There is nobody else in the toilet so I start to panic. Seeing as I have nobody I can call, my only option is to take my sweater off and wrap it around my waist, leaving me in my denim shorts and vest top.
Self-consciously, I exit the shop and begin to make my way home, walking very awkwardly. It is over an hour walk, and after about 5 minutes of walking the sky decides to have a huge summer storm. Rain starts heavily pouring down, putting my hair into rats tails and my eye makeup making me look like a racoon.
I am feeling very sorry for myself as I walk, my shoes filled with water and hair dripping. The storm doesn’t look like it is going to stop anytime soon and the streets are now abandoned. Seeing as it is my time of month I am very emotional, so the tears start spilling out and my legs become weak. I start to get very excruciating stomach cramps, causing me to curl up in a ball, and I soon find myself sitting on the floor an hour away from home weeping and dripping wet, shivering as I only have a vest and shorts on. In pain and exasperation, I close my eyes wanting to block everything out, and soon I lose consciousness.
I can’t have been seriously passed out because I was awoken when I heard somebody yelling my name. I opened my eyes to see Luke jumping put of his car and running towards me. When he reaches me he doesn’t say anything, he just scoops me up and carries me over to his car. He opens the back door with his foot and carefully places me down, before walking over to the other side of the car and sitting beside me in the back.
“Lily please tell me what has happened,” He looks at me intently, not showing any emotion.
“I-I-I…,” I shiver, not managing to get the words out. I break down in another fit of tears. Luke looks taken a back for a second, but then moves closer to me. I am curled up in a ball but he lifts up my head and places it on his thigh, stroking my cheek.
“Please talk to me,”
“I-I don’t know, I j-just broke down,”
“What were you thinking about?”
“I have nobody,”
Luke’s hand freezes and he stares at me.
“Lily a lot more people care about you then you think,”
“N-No, there is n-nobody, my mum hates me, Amelia h-hates me, you guys hate m-”
“Ok, first I’m sure whatever has happened with your mum you can sort out, who gives a fuck about Amelia, and no we don’t Lily, sure maybe some of the guys are angry at both of us, but they don’t hate us,”
I manage to stop crying and we just sit in silence, the only noise is the rain pattering on the car roof.
“You’re freezing Lils, put you’re sweater on,” He softly says and begins to pull it off from around my waist.
“No!” I quickly shoot my hands down to my waist, not letting him pull it off me.
“Lily you are shivering why can’t you-”
“It’s, um, girl problems,” I awkwardly mutter. He gives me a weird look but then suddenly widens his eyes and slowly nods his head.
“Ohhhh, right, um, ok, um, why were you so far away anyway?”
“I went for a walk,” I softly reply. He chuckles at me, before carefully lifting my head off his leg. He walks to the boot and gets an old jumper and wraps it around my shoulders. He then gets into the front seat and starts driving. My eyelids suddenly feel heavy, and I soon drift to sleep.
