Chapter 6: The Captain

*daimens point of view*

"GRACE!!"
I frantically ran towards her as she collapsed like a rag doll
"Oh god Oh god oh god shit shit shit"
I didn't know what to do
My mind was clouded with worry
I looked at the ground to see Taiyang and luno
Dead
I felt So bad
I was meant to protect her
Not just physically but mentally as well
I failed
I failed again
"NOT NOW DAMIEN!" I said out loud, I have to find help
I quickly checked grace for injuries
She seemed fine apart from some cuts on her fingers
She probably fainted from the shock
I picked her up to go and find Help
I have to find cranberry and the others
Hopefully they're ok
I wandered through the rubble
Trying to find some source of life
There was nothing
Everyone was gone
Not even dead bodies
Nothing
"HALT!"
I froze. A strong sounding voice came from behind me
I slowly turned around to see some sort of officer
"SIR PUT THE PRINCESS DOWN!"
I didn't know these people but they were holding a gun to my head
"But I'm her-"
"Hold on!" Another voice said as cranberry came from behind him "He's her protector"
"I see" the officer said "do you have identification?"
I froze up again. I don't have proof! I looked at cranberry for help
Cranberry walked up to me. Grabbed my wrist. Pulled up my sleeve and turned it over
"See?" Cranberry said "he's official"
Ohh...
The officer put his gun down
"Come with me"
I followed through the rubble to what seemed to be a spacecraft of some sort
There was a person standing In Front of it talking to some other officers
"Captain! We have found the princess and her protector"
The 'captain' turned towards me
He looked awfully young
He was a little shorter than me and had long messy dirty blonde hair tied back in a low ponytail.
He had piercing dark blue eyes and a black coat that went slightly above his knees along with cargo trousers
He gave me a serious look
"Names David Kelly. But please call me captain. You are?"
"Damien. Damien lee" I said quickly, I would have saluted him but I was still holding grace.
"I see you have the princess. Do you know the whereabouts of her parents?"
"...yes...but I'm afraid they...didn't...make it..."
David looked taken aback and rather upset
"I...I see" he paused and turned to the officer who found me "are there any other known survivors?"
"No sir" he said "apart from the ones we found"
"Very well" he said "keep searching for another hour then we shall leave"
The officer nodded and hurried off
David turned back to me
"If you go around the left corner you'll find the other survivors" he said pointing
"O-ok thank you" I said
Cranberry stayed back to lead David to Taiyang, lily and luno as I walked around the left side of the ship and saw the others
my eyes widened
All there were was, was the protectors
Scorch And Scarlett
That's...that's it??
It can't be..
That can't be it!
Scarlett raised her head out of her hands
"Damien?! Are you-" she paused as he noticed grace, limp in my arms
"Oh my...grace!"
She ran forward as scorch lifted his head as well
Scarlett gently took grace from me
I sighed as the weight off my arms lifted and I could move them again
"Let me have a look" she said quietly as I sat down and placed my head in my hands
Scorch came and sat next to me
"What happened to grace?"
"Shock" I sighed.
"Shock? Like...electricity shock?"
"No...shock as in 'saw her parents dead directly In Front of her' shock"
Scorch fell silent
"Wait...Taiyang and luno...they?"
I nodded
Scorch paused again
"What about lily...where is she?"
"Next to Taiyang and luno with several limbs missing"
Scorch looked horrified
He stood up
"....where..." He said, his voice breaking
I pointed in the direction I came from and he opened his wings and immediately took off
"That was a bit harsh don't you think?"
Scarlett said
I looked at her before putting my head back in my hands
"Iv just had enough for today"
Her face suddenly changed from worry to anger
"YOU'VE? Had enough?! I lost the person I was meant to protect!! The person your protecting is STILL ALIVE!! HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK I FEEL?!"
"SCARLETT!" cranberry shouted "that is enough! We have ALL had a hard day. Do NOT make it worse for all of us"
Scarlett went quiet but the angry look on her face remained as she stormed off and back to grace
"I apologise for her" cranberry said laying a hand on my shoulder "she has a short fuse"
Just then David came around the corner
"We haven't found any other survivors I'm afraid"
"This is it?" I said "on a whole planet..?"
"I understand that you are new here as cranberry has told me. This place is the only populated place on dregshky, unlike earth, though speaking of earth that is where you all will be heading"
"Earth?" Scarlett and cranberry both said in unison
"Yes" David said "it's the only other place we know of that will be safe for you"
I couldn't help but feel sorry for all of them
Earth isn't very safe
Compared to this place it's like a constant war zone
They'll be ripped to pieces...including grace...
"Anyway" David carried on "scorch has returned and we WERE going to take taiyang, luno and Lily's body's with us to give them a burial... but they don't seem to be there"
"What?" I said
"They've just...gone" cranberry said "all that's left is a pool of blood"
I was totally and utterly confused
This made no sense whatsoever
"Captain!" An officer marched up to him and whispered something in his ear
"I see..." David turned to us "we must leave now. There's a lot of things we have to do back on earth. Come on you lot."
I went and gently picked up grace again and began walking through a large metal door
"Damien I request you leave the princess to me"
A sudden protectiveness came over me
"...why...?" I asked
"To tend to any injuries she may have. She will also be much more comfortable in our hospital suite"
I slowly nodded and laid her in David's arms
He nodded back and walked off into the ship while me and the others were directed into a waiting room of sorts to wait until grace woke up
I hope she's ok

Who am I kidding
Who could be OK after this??
Her world has been destroyed. Her parents dead and now she has to go to earth
God. I'm a terrible protector.
