CH 23

Looking out the large window, I fiddle around with the nearly gossamer white curtains. Taking a step back, I admire the nearly finished babies room. All that's left is the shelves that go over the changing table for easy access for baby wipes and powder.

"Wow sis, this is starting to feel real" my sister remarks as she enters the room with arms full of baby clothes. I suspect she has gone another shopping binge. Behind her with a large penguin is my adorable niece with a large smile as she skips over to the crib and places the stuffed animal right in the middle of the bed. I smile, as I walk but more like waddle over to see what my sister brought.

"Okay, so first one is—" she picks up a bright green onesie but accidently drops it as she tries to flip it around to show me the front. Laughing at her, I bend over and go to pick up the outfit. But as I am bending over, I feel something twitch in my abdomen. Feeling warmth spread across my thighs and a weird wetness, I stand straight and look at my sister in confusion. Her face has gone from easy going, to wide-eyed and panicked.

"Rose, your water just broke!"

"Okay Ms. Parker, one last push and your baby will be here" came from the voice between my legs. Normally, I would not be completely 100% okay with a doctor speaking to me as they are making eye contact with my nether region, but at the moment I did not care. One last push, that is what she said and then this pain can end.

Grabbing ahold of my sister's hand, I squeeze with everything I had as I bunch my abdominal muscles together for one last hard push. Pushing with all my might, I don't stop till I hear the doctor speak.

"Great! Your baby is here! You can rest now Ms. Parker" Nodding, I slump back into bed but watch the doctor with my eyes. Trying to see my baby but they have them in the back to get cleaned up and checked over. It was surprising though, I thought they would be screaming by now, but all I can here from my baby are little grunts as they move around.

"Ms. Parker, meet your son" Son? I smile largely as they place the bundle in my arms. Looking down into their face, I feel stinging in my eyes as I make eye contact with dark brown sleepy eyes.

"Hello little Mason" I coo as I place a gentle kiss on their forehead. He smiles a large rectangular smile that makes my heart pinch.

After a day, they released us to go home. My sister and her husband drove us home. My sister has stayed the last few days to help me out as I get used to taking care of my son. Today is the first day that it's just us. At the moment, I am sitting on the living room couch with my son laying on my lap with a pillow to prop him up. I am making silly faces at him as giggles and reaches for me. I cannot get over how precious he is. Sitting here and getting to hold him, made it all worth it. All the hardships, the love lost, and the stress of starting over.

Feeling vibrations, I look over at my phone and see that it is an incoming call. Grabbing it, I swipe to answer and grin largely as one of my closest friends come into view.

"Lee! How are you?" I greet as I wave.

"Me? I am good, what about you? How's the pregnancy going?" I smirk as I look in contemplation.

"Hmmm well there have been some new developments lately" I tease.

"What do you mean by new developments?" Lee looks at me in confusion. Smiling, I switch the camera around, so Lee can see Mason giggling on my lap as he tries to reach for my phone.

"What?! You had the baby and didn't call me!" Laughing, I switch it back around and smile at him. "Girl, you are lucky your baby is cute, otherwise, I would disown you." I let out a boisterous laugh at him.

"So, what's their name?"

"His name is Mason" I smile proudly as I left him up, so he can cuddle under my chin on my chest.

"His? So, you had a boy?" Lee looks excited.

"Yup! He is my handsome little man" I wink at the camera.

"Argh! I need to get some time off soon, so I can come meet the little guy. His uncle Lee needs to spoil him." Lee pouts and I let out another laugh. We talk for another few hours about needing to meet up. After hanging up, I look down and see that Mason is asleep. He has a goofy look on his face that reminds me of something painful. It seems every day, Mason is starting to look and act more like his father.
