Light jazz music fills the air of the comfortable coffee shop. The smell of espresso mixed with the old books lining the walls with comfortable furniture that you can just sink into—gave customers a sense of relaxing at home. This coffee shop became my haven from the worries of the world when I first started at my job as head publicist.
Leaning back on the leather chair, I place my warm cup of coffee on the side table as I prop Mason up on my lap. Staring down into his wide and innocent brown eyes that are tinged with a reddish green hue he got from my hazel eyes, my current worries melt away.
This face has been the reason why I worked so hard to get to where I am. I wanted to build a life for him that he can grow up in a warm, loving home. So, he can learn to be a warm loving person, to be a happy child. I wanted to raise my son in a home much like the home I grew up in with my parents. I wanted him to be so happy that he never would have to think about his missing father, that his life will so full, he wouldn't have a need to miss anything. But now, now that is all crumbling around me. I don't know where to stand, but just to hold onto keeping this face in front of me happy, loved, and taken care of.
Sighing, I run my fingers through his dark hair. He grins gummily with a boxy smile as he tries to reach towards my face and starts to babble at me. I can't help but let out a grin as I learn forward and kiss all over his adorable chubby face.
"Oh, my stars and glory, that is the cutest thing ever!" a loud voice causes both mason and I to jump. Turning I glare at him, as I turn Mason to face the intruder.
Lee sits down across from me with his own cup of coffee and starts to reach towards my platter of food and nabs a red grape. He looks up and instantly starts cracking up, his eyes darting between my son and me.
"What's so funny?" I ask, as I take a sip of my coffee, avoiding Mason's hands as he tries to grab at the mug. Grabbing his sippy cup instead, I hand it to him which he promptly pops into his mouth and settles against my chest. His eyelids become droopy but instantly narrows towards the laughing man, which just causes Lee to crack up even more, nearly doubling over.
"In his looks, he is so much like Taehyung, b-but his evil eye is just like yours. Phew!' he wipes at his eyes as he settles back into his chair, still hiccupping after his laughing fit.
I feel my eyebrow arch as I choose to ignore him, still mad at him for bringing Taehyung last night with no prior warning.
Lee can feel my anger as he finally stops laughing and settles into his chair with a large sigh,
"I know you're mad at me Rose, but I had to bring him," I feel something swell in me that is both anger and sadness.
"Why Lee, why did you bring him?" I finally ask the question of the century as I settle a glare at Lee.
"He needs to fix things with you Rose. You need him to fix things between you..."
"Fix things? How exactly within your plan do you see things getting fixed? We are still having the same issues from before. Even if I get over the fact that he just walked out when he found out I was pregnant with our son, but he's still a celebrity, he still has a whole band to think of, he still has so much going on that if it was suddenly announced he has a kid—what do you think will happen? Huh? Where in this plan did you find the answers?"
Lee looks taken back with his coffee cup posed in front of his lips as his eyes widen in shock to my outburst. He settles the cup back onto the table, and leans forward, finally seeming to read my mood.
"Rose, I know its hard, but you have to let him back in...you have no idea what he went through when you left..." as he trails off, he seems to notice the implications of his words as I hastily stand up from my chair with mason securely in my arms, jaw clenched tightly.
Quickly, I pack up all my belongings and swing my bag up onto my shoulder. I pause as I am about to rush past Lee.
"You want to talk about what people have been through, you want to justify his pain over mine when you damn well don't know what I went through? What hardships I faced as being a young single woman who has to unexpectedly come home with a bun in the oven from a foreign country, missing the other counterpart who helped to develop that said bun? You want to discuss how he suffered so much more than me that before my first day of work that I already had the title of easy before I even stepped foot through the door?" I scoff as I part with one phrase before I left, "you want to compare his sufferings to my own when I nearly lost Mason to the stress I faced when forced to move back home when he chose to walk away?"
With anger coursing through my veins, I shove open the door as I leave in a huff as Lee sits in his chair. Shocked at his own words, shocked that he put Tae before Rose when he knew in all of its vivid detail the sufferings she had to go through. His words echo back to him as he slumps into his chair.
"How the hell will I fix this?" Lee mutters to himself as his gaze follows the brunette as she deposits Mason in his car seat in her black GMC terrain.
Sorry for the late update! First it was one thing after another and then I was not satisfied with this scene that I ended up rewriting it. Expect the next chapter coming tomorrow!
