Uno, dos, TACOS...wait thats not how numbers work in Spanish

Right remember when I said I have an idea. I tried to make it work and it didn't work and I have had no ideas at all. But as it is Valentines Day (bleh) why not try to write/think of something. YAAAAY?I am literally the worst with schedules and remembering things so sorry this took so long... please try to enjoy this.

The story behind this: So as Ruby spend 6 years of her life at Thurmond she didn't really celebrate holidays and special events. So its the 4th of July (YES I KNOW THAT IN THE DARKEST MINDS THEY DONT CELEBRATE MUCH OR AT ALL BUT LET ME LIVE MY DREAMS) and since the Black Betty Squad don't really have a way of knowing the date they kinda don't realise for a while...

It was pretty late in the evening when we decided to stop for the night. I pulled onto the side of the dirt road we were driving down. "Hold on," I told everyone else, "I'll go check it out...you just...try not to kill each other". "That'll be hard," Chubs scoffed as I got out of Black Betty. It was a warm, probably summer evening. There was a field on both sides of the road we were driving on, but on the right side there was a small forest about a kilometre away from the road across the field. 

I looked around. There were no lights in any directions that I could see. As the crickets chirped and the sun was setting I realised that we could take cover in the field anyway and if necessary we could take cover in the forest. I sighed and decided that it was the best chance we had at resting away from civilisation. I scoured the area for anything suspicious and since I didn't find anything I walked back to Black Betty.

I knocked on Chubs' window making him jump in his seat and clutch his chest. After he processed that it was only me he opened his doors, Ruby and Zu following soon. "I hate you" he said punching me in the shoulder as he closed his car door. 

"I didn't do anything wrong," I argued as I locked Betty and guided them through the field, "I just informed you that everything is cool in a different way then you'd expect".

"You mean by scaring the sh-" he started saying but caught himself realising Zu was around. "by scaring the crap out of me". 

"HOW? Tell me HOW did THAT scare you" I retorted making my way to the edge of the forest. After a lot more of pointless arguing I just heard Ruby sigh "Zu how did you manage with them. If I were you I have no clue what I would have done but staying with them would be my last option". Zu giggled silently while Chubs and I looked at Ruby with narrow eyes. She shrugged in response and then us three also laughed. It was nice having another member with us. Someone who knew how to have fun, but could also take care of themselves. 

When we reached the edge of the forest and stopped. "Chubs did you bring dinner?"I asked hime when we sat in the green field which you could no longer tell was green as it has gone dark. 

"No I thought you had it," he told me looking both surprised and annoyed.

"I told you to bring it," I said louder than I intended to. After a moment of us bickering Ruby sighed and with surprising strength in her voice she yelled at us "Hey geniuses". She proceeded to throw a candy bar at the each of us she took out from the backpack she had when we first met. "Thanks Ruby Tuesday," I said laying down biting a bit of the off. It wasn't a feast of dreams but it was still better than nothing. 

We lay there talking for a bit, but just as I was about to fall asleep a loud bang went off somewhere behind us. Me, Ruby and Chubs immediately shot up and looked around for the source of the blow. We all looked around trying not to make ourselves easy targets but also trying to find an escape route. Then another bang. And another. And another. We all ducked to the ground covering our ears and closing our eyes. 

I lay there in the ground hands pressed on my ears thinking this is it. The ground suddenly felt cold and even the air around me felt cols as more bangs went off around us. I kept my eyes shut waiting for someone to find us or just stop. But the bangs around us got more intense by the second. 

Thats when I felt a small tap on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and noticed Zu standing above me. I uncovered my ears trying to get her to fall to the ground, but she stepped away and pointed at the sky. Fireworks. It was just fireworks. Mainly red, blue and white, but other more vibrant colours were there too. It was the first time in a while I've seen fireworks and I had forgotten the beautiful nature of them. Fourth of July. 

I kept gazing up at the sky making out the different shapes and kinds of fireworks and Zu seemed just as fascinated. Thats when I realised Chubs and Ruby were still on the ground covering there ears and their eyes shut. I tapped Zu on the back to get her out of the trans she was in by staring at the fireworks and motioned for her to 'tell' Chubs. When she nodded I went up to Ruby who had curled herself into a circle, her face hidden in her knees. I kneeled beside her and gently tapped her arm she seemed to jump more at me touching her than the actual fireworks. 

Slowly she looked up and when she noticed it was just me she looked around for Chubs and Zu. When she noticed they were safe a bit of the worry from her face disappeared but she was still tense with the fireworks going off. I pulled her up to her feet and pointed at the sky where fireworks were still going off. 

She gave a small gasp when she saw them and seemed to retreat into though and like the rest of us gazing at the sky that was filling with more and more colour each second.

"Happy Fourth of July" I said...

Helloooooo... OH OH OH EXCITING NEWS!!! THE DARKEST MINDS MOVIE DATE WAS CHANGED! ITS COMING OUT EARLIER! APPARENTLY IT SHOULD BE OUT AUGUST 3rd. YAAAAAAAAAY...Anyway I'm so so so so so so sorry for taking so long to update. Things have recently been rough for me and I had a lot of stress from school and other things. Things have been better today and so I decided to write something. Anyway hope you liked this and I PROMISE I'll try to update more regularly and if not I give you permission to spam me with shit...
