Chapter 5

--------------------------- 5 days later, deep in the Amazon----------------------------------

Deep in the Amazon, there lies a hidden base, camouflaged by strong magic. In the base, a witch sits on her throne of skeletons. ¨ Welcome back, me friend.¨ she says as a crow with glowing red eyes enters her chamber. The crow lands on her arm, and caw's with pleasure. ¨You have done well my pet. We now know where the DWMA students have their base, and shall execute our plan in the morning.¨ She began to laugh, a chilling laugh that would stop anyone in their tracks. ¨ Just you wait, Kami... Eris shall have her revenge¨

------------------------------Back at base camp---------------------------------------

I woke with a start, this was the 3rd nightmare i'd had since we had arrived. Every night, I woke up to Tsubaki shaking me. She spoke in a soft voice, ¨Maka. Another nightmare?¨ I nodded in response. She gave me hug, and I gladly accepted. ¨Every night, they just get worse. I saw everyone getting killed by an invisible force. And... you all suffered. Oh how you suffered. The whole time, I just stood there, unable to help. ¨ I began to cry, accidentally waking up Liz and Patty.

Since there was no way I was going back to sleep, the others elected to stay up with me. So, the rest of the night we did each other's hair, talked about relationships, and just really whatever came to mind.

Before we knew it, it was morning. We all dressed and headed outside for breakfast. I took my usual seat besides Soul, and across from Kid. ¨ Maka, are you alright?¨ I heard Kid ask. ¨Yes, of course! I'm fine!¨ I responded with a smile, but no one looked convinced. I knew why, of course. I looked awful, eyes puffy from crying, large bags under my eyes, not to mention I saw constantly twiddling my thumbs together, something I did when I was worried. But, before Kid could ask anything else, Stein arrived with papa in towe.

¨I trust everyone is well rested?¨ everyone nodded in response, I could feel Kid's glare on me. ¨Good, now, go and get whatever you will need for today's sweep of the area. We meet back here in 10 minutes.¨ Everyone got up and made their way to the cabins. I was trying to avoid any more questions so I walked hurriedly to my cabin. I was just about to reach the door, when Blackstar tackled me to the ground.

¨ HOW DARE YOU TURN YOUR BACK ON THE GREAT BLACKSTAR!!!! YOU WILL NOW ANSWER THE QUESTIONS YOUR GOD HAS FOR YOU!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!¨ suddenly, I heard two gunshots. I looked up to see that Kid had just shot Blackstar, just enough to where he had fallen off of me. ¨Oops, my fingers slipped.¨ He said in a monotone voice.

I laughed at the memory of when Kid first came to the DWMA, and had shot Blackstar and Soul. Kid helped me up, and the others rushed towards where they had heard the commotion. Tsubaki helped Blackstar up, and began to tell him how that was rude to tackle me like he did. ¨Thanks Kid.¨ I said with relive in my voice. ¨No problem Maka. Are you sure your ok?¨ I was about to answer as I did before, then as I looked around I realized the boys were honestly worried. Even Blackstar. ¨I'm fine. I just had a nightmare, so I did not get that much sleep. Ok?¨ The boys all nodded, and the girls let out a breath for relive that I had told them the truth.

We all split up again, to get our bags and met back where we had breakfast. Stein stood in front of us. ¨Alright, today we will be searching part of the Western area of the forest. I want us in a tight formation, in case of a sneak attack. So, Kid I want you and Maka in the front. That way you both can use your soul perception. Blackstar and I will take up the back. WEapons are not to return to human form until we come back to camp. Understood?¨ We all nodded, and our weapons changed.

We began our search. We all stayed in formation, on high alert. Nothing seemed to be amis in the forest. We heard the sounds of insects, birds, monkeys, we saw snakes and spiders, nothing out of the ordinary. We continued like this for about 2 hours. Suddenly, I felt like I was being watched. I used my soul perception, but only found the animal souls. I looked up, to see that what was watching me, was actually a crow. A crow with blood red eyes. I shivered as I looked at it. Then i realized, there aren't any crow's in the amazon.

¨Um, guys?¨ I was just about to say something, when suddenly I felt the presence of about 20 pre-kishin souls, and 1 witch from behind us. Kid sensed it, as well as stein. We got in position to fight. Suddenly the witch soul vanished, which meant she either left, or is using soul protect.

The pre- kishins began to charge our way. Ready for a fight, we all turned in their direction. They began their attack, but for some reason, only attacked stein. As we rushed to help him, I detected the witch soul again. Stein felt it and yelled out, ¨Go!! Find the witch, I can handle this!!¨ I nodded, and took off, Kid and Blackstar behind me.

We chased the soul for about half and hour, deeper and deeper into the jungle. When suddenly, the soul vanished again. I punched a tree in frustration, as Blackstar began to scout around in the trees, and Kid tried to detect the soul again. Suddenly, we heard a loud crash. Blackstar jumped down, and we raced towards it, hoping it was the witch, or maybe stein.

Once we reached the source, we found a woman, in all black. A caped around her neck, decorated with raven feathers. She had long black hair, tied in a high ponytail. Her eyes were glowing red. ¨It's you. You're the witch. ¨ I said, Kid and blackstar looked at me like I was crazy. ¨Maka, no one is there...¨ Blackstar said.
