Chapter 2

Leo walks everyone to the House. I look up at the massive structure which towers above everything else- except for the walls. The black paint looks like it was just painted. It triggers a memory, something. But then it’s gone, in an instant.

I wonder what Leo’s going to tell me about this place. Is it made up? Did people engineer the place? Oh, oh, and don’t tell me, there are mythical creatures! Everything just seems so ridiculous. I keep wondering what will happen to me, and what my parents think of this…wait. My parents! Where are they? They must be worried sick! But…who are my parents? Okay, that is extremely strange. Is everyone like this?

…..

“So.” Leo’s voice resonates throughout the massive room. “What do you want to know?”

I think how stupid that sounded.

“I want to know everything about this place, why I’m here…what is here?”

“Hmm,” he mumbles. “You, like everyone else here, were taken off of the Mainland and brought here onto a floating island. Yes, it sounds like it comes right out of a fairy tale or novel. And this-” With that, he spread his arms out, “Is Gaea.”

“Hey, isn’t that from Greek mythology?”

“Yes, it is. Gaea told her son to kill his dad. Pretty evil. That’s why we call it that.”

I think about what Ian told me. The real name was… “The Zone.”

“Yes, Lance, that is the real name.” He says spitefully.

“I think that’s enough information for now.” Ian says. Leo storms off into the darkness of the night.

I stay in a small shack with only a few things- a bathroom, a bed, and a table. Ian says this will be my home until I choose a job, which might be tomorrow, in a week, or even a year. I sit down on the edge of my bed and look at the world outside. This is a village, except that the villagers are trapped inside of walls. A light comes from the other side of the walls and makes a faint orange glow. Ian mentioned that there are crops on the other side, then more walls. What happens out there? I wonder if I will ever live to see.

…..

The sun streams through the small window near my bed. I stand up and walk over to the bathroom and stare at my reflection. My light brown hair is ruffled up and my gray eyes are still droopy with sleep. I have tan skin. Tan. HOW IN THE WORLD DID I GET TAN SKIN? I go outside to the small stream that is to the side of my shack and fill up my bucket. I go back in and pour it on my head. The ice cold water streams down my body, leaving me with a chilling feeling.

I see Leo racing over to me, and I set the bucket down. I walk over to him. “What’s up?”

“Something’s happening at the House. It’s for the jobs.”

We both jog over to the House, and I wonder what’s in store for me there.

I FINALLY PUBLISHED IT!!!! BE HAPPY. Sorry, I was having writers block for this chapter. So, yeah. Here it is.
