~ DORIE'S POV ~

I was awake.

But why weren't my eyelids opening?

All I saw was a bright red that reminded me of how I saw the sun when I was little. Was this what it it was supposed to be when you were dead? No sight, just thoughts?

The heat coming from beneath my eyelids was so powerful it was almost controlling me.

I attempted to open my eyelids, but they felt so heavy. So I just laid there to rest.

I was so tired.

So very tired.

~ MILES POV ~

My escape reminded me very much of a movie. Where everything changes for someone all by one movement, one action, one stand against something. Then the next few parts are all just in slow motion.

That's how my getaway was.

_Slowmotion_

I figured that Zeus and the others were still in shock that I had one, beat their friend to the ground. And two, had enough balls to escape because the door to the room hadn't opened. But I wasn't going to keep looking back to wait for them to chase me.

My lungs were on fire, but my legs were just fine.

So I kept running.

Coming upon the end of the hallway that had the option of turning left or right, I chose to go right and prayed that this was the way closer to Dorie or Izzy, or someone who would want to help instead of hurt.

The hallways were white as snow and smelled of lysol. Slowing my pace, but not stopping my run, I saw a crowbar lying in the middle of the white tile floors.

This seemed so out of place.

I didn't hesitate to grab it, though.

With the crowbar, I took off to my journey.

~DORIE'S POV ~

"Dorian, if you can hear me, I need you to wiggle your finger." I heard a voice boom into my ears.

I felt a smile stretch across my face. Why would God want me to wiggle my fingers? I remember how my mom used to always say that God had jokes too. Some of his own.

I heard a gasp go around the room as my eyes flickered open.

"When I said wiggle your fingers, I wasn't expecting you to be all awake, wow." The man said, apparently astounded by my actions.

"God?" I said, still smiling.

This brought on a room full of laughter.

"No, my name is Carson. I'm your-" He hesitated on the last word. "Doctor."

I looked at him not knowing what to say. Carson was very tall. About six-foot. He had square glasses that fit him greatly, actually making him attractive. But the glasses made it hard to see his beautiful gray eyes. He also had dark brown hair that was slicked back in a way. It made me think that if it weren't for whatever grease he used to slick his hair back, his hair would be all over his face. He looked like he could be nineteen, but that couldn't be.  Overall, Carson was handsome.

He went on to talk. " We didn't expect you to be awake for awhile.. We didn't expect you to be awake at all. But you've beat all the odds."

I was confused.

"Is- Is it over?" I asked, hoping he knew what I meant by 'it'.

Carson sulked at my response. "I'm sorry, but it's not. But that's why we need you." Carson touched my hand.

I remembered what had happened before I woke up. The examiner and the nurses throwing me into the scalding water and trying to kill me. The memory made me instantly snatch away my hand and scoot away from Carson.

"Dorian, please. You're among friends."

His plea made me think immediately of Miles when I decided to leave the room. My eyes began to water.

"Dorian? Is everything alright?" He questioned.

"Don't call me that! You call me Dorie, alright?" I yelled. Miles was the only one to actually call me Dorian, and all these people calling me that began to make me irritable.

That wiped the smiles right off of all of their faces.

"If that's what you wish." He stated calmly.

I looked at the cords and needles that were stuck into my body and began to yank them out.

"What _is_ all of this?" I squeaked, voice high pitched with emotion.

Every face in the room was dumbfounded. Carson was about to speak, but I cut him off.

" I don't care. Just tell me where my sister is and we'll be good."

I swung my feet over the bed and fell to the ground as soon as my feet touched the floor.

Carson and others immediately came to my aid to help, and that upset me further.

"Get off!" I shrieked. They obeyed my orders.

I started to cry and the room became dead silent.

"What do you want from me?" I cried.

Carson squatted down and put his hand on my shoulder.

"You're our only hope of leaving this place, Dorie."
