~ DORIE'S POV ~
My body automatically went into fighting position as I heard another voice by the door.
My arms went to my sides and my fists unclenched as who it was came into view.
Miles.
He stood by the door, with a crowbar in his hand, looking at me. His eyes didn't leave me for a second. And when they did, it was when Zeus had changed, growling and was now hungry for our flesh. Miles went to Zeus and put the bottom of his boot on Zeus's chest, holding him on the ground.
"I'm going to enjoy this." Miles said truthfully before he stuck the crowbar through Zeus's skull. I shuddered during the aftermath of his kill.
Miles made eyes contact with Carson, both nodding at each other in some unspoken conversation. They both rolled Zeus's body in the bathroom, shutting the door on the ugly memory. After washing his hands, Miles promptly made his way back across the room and wrapped his arms around me tightly, embracing me, planting heartfelt kisses on my cheek and forehead before he finally kissed my lips.
Still holding me, with his arms around my waist, Miles eyed me.
"You got a haircut." He said genuinely.
Those were the first words he had said to me. At least he noticed my unwanted haircut.
"Your face." I said, looking at how the bruises looked as if they had gotten worse, if anything more had gotten added. I realized that Miles really could take a punch. Here he was, right in my arms.
I laughed suddenly, almost uncontrollably. Making him laugh, making the other three in the room laugh. I was laughing so much that tears started to form inside my eyes. Miles reached up to wipe my eyes.
"How did you-"
"Long story. One that we don't have time to go over now, sweetheart." Miles said, cutting me off.
He looked over to Carson and Ezra.
"Ezra?" He asked, letting me go, but interlocking his fingers with mine.
Ezra raised his scrawny hand. "Present."
"So you have a plan for all of this?" Miles asked.
"Yes. I do. But if you want it to work we need to hurry so I can explain it in enough time. Hold your questions till the end."
I felt like we were at an assembly at school.
Ezra clasped his hands and began. "So Hans is the mastermind behind this entire crazed idea. Like Carson said, he's basically the Hitler of the apocalypse. Instead of letting people fight for themselves, he wants to be the one people turn to, the face of the apocalypse."
He went to close the door. "But not without a price, of course."
Miles opened his mouth to speak, but Ezra continued. "I'm under the impression that Hans is separating people off into specific groups. Clearly he's sparring the children in a way, because he took Carson's siblings and Dorie's, but he doesn't have any mercy towards the women like they would have back then. I'm thinking that maybe he lost a wife, or daughter during the apocalypse, which obviously wasn't apart of his master plan. Meaning there was a change of plans."
Ezra paused and looked at our observing faces before he sustained. "He can't use everyone for his genetic project, because then he'd have no army at all. If it's one thing this guy is obviously prepared for, it's failure. So clearly, as if right now, Dorie is the only successful experiment, while his current army is just full regular people."
"So what do we do?" Miles asked finally.
Ezra sparingly looked at Miles. "First, we have to get through his little army, including whatever is in our way. Then, we kill Hans."
