"That, of course, was Adam." Tina laughs shaking her. "He talks constantly. It's hilarious to see him and Tim together. The looks Tim gives him. (laughs) So be prepared. So, are you going to be staying in one of the apartments upstairs?"
"Actually, I didn't know there was apartments upstairs." Chance chuckles.
"They're studio apartments. Several of the employees lives here. Would you like to see them?" The owner asks.
"I'd love to. That's probably all I would need." Chance says with a nod.
A noise draws their attention back to the garden doors.
"Why don't you watch where you are going, Photograph?!" A rude patient says loudly.
Tim slowly gets on his knees and begins picking up the pictures that were scattered around on the floor that he had dropped.
Before Chance even realized it, he was rushing over to help.
"No need to be so rude." Chance tells the younger man.
"Well, if he didn't have his nose stuck in those stupid pictures, he would have seen me." The patient says as he kicks some of the pictures before walking on out to the garden.
"Are you alright?" Chance asks as he helps pick up the pictures from the floor.
Tim nods slightly without lifting his eyes.
Their hands touch as they both reach for the same picture. Tim quickly jerks his hand back. Chance had felt it too. The only way to describe it was the feeling you get if you drag your feet across carpet then touch the door knob. A quick pop of electricity. But it was impossible, there was no carpet, only tile floors.
Chance had zoned out for a minute as he looked at his hand. He raises his eyes and meets Tim's staring at him with a confused look.
The only thing Chance could think to do at the time was shrug his shoulders. Tim tightens his lips and looks away as if he was trying to keep from smiling.
"Tim, Honey, are you okay?" Tina asks as she hands him the pictures that she had picked up that had been kicked across the floor.
Tim nods as he stands from the floor, straightening his pictures.
"Listen, Uh, Tina is going to show me an apartment up stairs." Chance says as he hands Tim the pictures he had picked up. Tim takes from his hand, careful not to touch him. "When I get done, I'd love to see your pictures."
Tim quickly nods. His eyes showing excitement.
"Okay, I'll see you in a little bit." Chance smiles as he turns and follows Tina.
"I think he's beginning to like you." Tina smiles as they walk up the stairs.
"Really?" Chance chuckles.
"Mhmm, I think you almost got him to smile." Tina says as they walk up at a closed door.
"I didn't even know this place had apartments." Chance says as Tina looks for the key on her key ring.
"Our head nurse, Jenika lives in one. Nate, an orderly, lives in one. And one of our nurses, Olena, lives in one." Tina says as she finally finds the key and opens the door.
"Wow." Chance smiles as he walks in. "This is so nice."
"Of course, you couldn't put a family in here." Tina laughs. She walks pass the t.v. to a very small hall and opens one of the two doors. "Here's your bathroom. Toilet, sink and shower. And the other door is a closet."
"This is perfect." Chance smiles as he continues to check out the small apartment.
"It comes completely furnished. Cable included. There's a stack-able washer and dryer in the kitchen." Tina says. "We furnish everything except for food." She laughs.
"I'll take it." Chance nods with a smile.
"I'll let you have time to move in and get settled before I put you on the schedule." She says after they finished the paper work.
The apartment was officially his.
"I've got some work to do." Tina says as she hands him the key. "Feel free to look around, maybe meet some of the employees and patients. And welcome to Waverly Hills."
"Thank you." Chance smiles as he shakes her hand. He closes the door as she walks down the hall. "This is awesome." He says to himself as he looks things over.
He suddenly realizes that Tim has been waiting on him all this time. He slips his door key onto his key ring and hurries out the door, locking it behind him.
As Chance walks quickly into the recreation room, he sees Tim sitting at a table. Adam was sitting across from him. And as usual, he was talking non-stop.
Chance chuckles at the blank expression that Tim had on his face as he stares at Adam. He couldn't help but wonder what was Tim thinking as he stares at the chatter-box.
"Hey, sorry it took me so long. I had to sign a bunch of papers to get the apartment." Chance says as he walks up to the table.
Tim quickly begins to stick his pictures into a large envelope that he had. He wasn't wasting any time in gathering his things.
"Hey, I remember you. Your name is Chance. I have a good memory." Adam smiles. "Oh, I almost forgot, Photograph, Austin is looking for you. Okay, now, bye-bye." He jumps up from the table and hurries away.
"Wow, maybe we should make a run for it before he comes back." Chance chuckles.
Tim smiles but hangs his head to keep Chance from seeing him smile. But Chance did catch a glimpse of it.
Tim grabs his envelope and camera and motions Chance to follow him.
"This is a big place." Chance says as they make a turn to another hallway lined with rooms.
"Hey, Timmy, We've been looking for you." A tall thin guy with long curly, reddish brown hair says with a smile. "Oh, Hi. I'm Austin. You must be the new guy that Adam mentioned."
"Yeah, I start just as soon as I move in upstairs. My name is Chance." Chance smiles as he shakes Austin's hand. 'He acts pretty normal' Chance thought to himself.
"This is Virgil." Austin says, pointing beside him.
Chance didn't see anybody else standing there. 'Okay? Maybe I was wrong.' He thought. He slowly turns his head to look at Tim meeting his brown eyes. But Tim had somewhat of a smirk on his face.
"Uh, Virgil wants to shake you hand, Mr. Chance." Austin says.
"Oh, I'm .. I'm sorry." Chance says as he holds out his hand. He could have sworn that he heard Tim snicker beside him.
"Timmy, I was wondering if you would take a picture of Virg?" Austin smiles.
Tim looks at him as if he had grown two heads but nods. He holds his camera up ready to take a picture.
"What are you doing?" Austin asks.
Tim lowers his camera and looks at Austin with a raised brow.
"He's over there by the wall." Austin says as he points.
Tim takes the picture. The camera spits the photo out in his hand and the three of them stare at the picture as it develops.
A plain white wall.
"That's a really good picture, Virgil." Austin smiles as he takes the picture from Tim. "Thanks, Timmy."
Austin continues down the hall showing the picture to the empty space beside him.
