I brush my fingers through my newly curled hair, a sigh escaping my lips. I turn around making sure I had made my bed and my homework that I finished last night, with me. I gaze over my room one last time, with its baby blue walls and mainly white furniture. Swinging my bag over my shoulder I make my way downstairs, grabbing an apple in process. I pass the kitchen, filling my travel mug with coffee. I still have twenty minutes.

''Mia!'' Bob's voice sounds from behind me. I turn my back smiling when my Uncle pulls me into his arms. ''You look beautiful,'' He says handing me a banana. ''Do not forget to eat. Breakfast's important young lady'' He mocks my mother.

I raise my apple and swat his arm lightly laughing. ‘‘Don’t, she will hear you and this time I won't cover for you.''

He laughs, sipping his coffee and looking for something to eat for himself. ''Do you have time for a long breakfast or.. .’’

''Nah, sadly. I have to go, but thanks Bob.''

I smile, tugging a piece of hair behind my ear. ''Did you take your medicine?'' He asks as I made my way to the door, grabbing my army green jacket. It isn't to cold outside, but you can never be to careful, right?

''Yeah I did. Bye Bob'' I hastily make my way outside faintly hearing his goodbye before I close the door. I walk to the car, starting it.

The drive was not too long and it gave me enough time to go over my plan for today. Not that I have much to do today anyway. I glance at the clock. I still have enough time to pick up Emma and get a coffee in time before class.

''How in hell can you wear a jacket it's burning outside!'' Emma exclaims as she pushes the door open and sitting next to me. ''Morning.''

''Good Morning.'' I say already driving down the road. ''Is Heather meeting us at the shop or should I pick her up?''

''Uh neither. She said she'll pass the first period, she's not feeling well,'' she explains, nervously patting her two index fingers on her knees and looking out of the window. I arch my brow at her, but decide to just leave it. After a quick visit at the shop where we usually get our lunch, we hop back into the car driving towards school.

''Have you already decided on what college you want to go?''

''Geez Mia! We still have time,'' she says as I drive to our school. Despite the early time, the traffic is low. I stop at red light.

''I know,'' I sigh, watching the wave’s crash over the beach. ''That is the problem.''

She looks at me chuckling. ''So eager to leave, huh?''

''No, it's not that I just.. .’’

Em nods, completely understanding my situation. Emma has been the first person I met when I moved here. See, as I was younger I used to live in Seattle, but for 8 years I live in Chicago, Illinois. I love that the trains above you, like they fly through the wind. I love the beach and the city. And for 8 years I live with my mother and my uncle, the younger brother of my father.

''I understand,'' she nods again before looking at me. I keep my eyes on the road. ''You want to be free.''

I roll my eyes. ''It's not like she's keeping me prisoner.''

''Oh yeah okay, then come with me to a party on Friday? I mean if you're not prisoner.''

''Emma, please it's too early for this kind of conversation.''

I give her a stern look and she arches a brow at me. ''Oh, so this is your idea of a conversation? Me telling you the way it is and you denying the truth. Admin it you can't go out, because your Mother, hell even your Uncle won't let you.''
