It had been two months. Everyone was coming back together just for personal purposes. Nina was doing better. But she said she had something to tell them. Nina had them meet at an orphanage in Ravka. She said it was clean and untraceable. The owners were good for it. Zoya, Genya, and Sturmhond had clarified they were safe.Nina carried a large bag with her. She set it down carefully and opened it up. It was Matthias' body. Jesper's eyes widened and Wylan grabbed onto him.
"Why do you have his body?" Kaz's cool voice rang throughout the room. Inej gasped at the display. Nina collapsed on the wood floor
"I was going to bury him. I've been keeping him in good condition. But there... something is wrong. I felt a heartbeat. It's not my imagination. I managed to get some confirmation from a heartrender I met on the way. Something is wrong." They all got a glance from the the married couple who ran the orphanage. The husband grabbed his wife closely. She whispered in his ear. He whispered back. Their names were Esfir and Ilya, Esfir had white hair and brown eyes and Ilya had the body of soldier and brown hair and eyes that were blue, Esfir went away put away some dishes, Ilya stayed behind and stared at the teens. He lent on the wall.
"Is this even ok?" Wylan asked, "where are the kids?"
"Outside playing. One of our friends is assisting."
"How do you even know Zoya and Sturmhond?" Kaz asked. Ilya refused to answer. Kaz looked at Esfir and to a folded blue Kefta that was on the lap of a chair pushed into a table. "Of course, I get it now. Sturmhond thought he pulled the wool over my eyes, but I get it." Esfir grabbed Ilya away and they went back to where they were out of sight. "I mean the blue Kefta. It's so obvious." Nina snapped.
"Can we get back on task! Something is wrong with him. In my dreams..." Inej went over and rubbed her back.
"What Nina?"
"I can't get his face out of my head," Nina grabbed her knees and cried.
"I wouldn't either," Kaz said,
"No, not when he died. For the last two weeks I've seen him. In Hell. The plaything of... a Man in Black." She gulped.
"What?"
"Matthias was a man of his faith, how could he go to Hell," she said to herself. "The man. He reminded me of the Darkling." Glass was broken in the kitchen. Ilya ran to Esfir. He helped her pick up the glass shards on the floor. He rubbed her back and whispered to her. She nodded. She stood up and went to the quintet. She helped Nina up.
"What did he look like, hair was black as ink? Grey eyes?" Nina nodded. Esfir pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "Yes, that's him." Nina was confused,
'Wait how?"
"That's not important. But you have to get your friend back,"
"How are we going save Matthias?" Jesper asked.
"You aren't, Kaz," she turned to him. "You're going to the afterlife."
Sorry it's short. The other chapters will be longer. I'm just working out the final details.
(Hi everyone, future author here. I just wanted to say hello and give everyone a few warnings for this fic. I wrote this when I was younger and didn't know to warn people about what could be triggering. That's my fault and I apologize. Especially now that the show is out and more people are finding this fic. Graphic violence, blood, knives, torture. All of that nasty stuff. There's a lot of swearing too. This story isn't for the faint of heart. I wrote it when I wanted everything to be angsty and dark, so if that isn't your cup of tea? I recommend something else)
Also I wrote this before Mikhael had a character so I hope you'll leave me alone for him being different
