(When you remember Kaz has a raspy voice only after you'd published the first chapter. Also did Inej lose her knives? I don't remember, but if she did let's say she got them back)(also the POVs do jump around slightly, like they all go back to Kaz in the end.)

Esfir grabbed Ilya's hand. "A new life, away from all the struggles." The pair looked at the orphanage. Esfir then buried her head into Ilya's arm. Ilya quickly swung her around quickly.

"No more Grisha powers and no more Fold. It's all gone." Esfir grew sad. Ilya quickly put her down. They entered the orphanage. Esfir cringed inside. It felt cold and empty, but she knew should could fix it up.

"It's so dark," she tried to use her power. Her eyes widened. "I forgot," Esfir looked to her hands. They were shaking. She sank to the ground. "I miss it," Ilya looked to her.

"What?" Esfir shook her head.

"I know I shouldn't, but I feel useless. I have no power. Nothing is special about me. I had power and I lost it. I was so powerful. I didn't even destroy it." Ilya looked at her sadly.

"Esfir, you don't need to be powerful, I still love you, you're not useless, you're retired. You don't need your power to be special."

"But... what if I miss it?"

Ilya walked over to Esfir. "Are you sure about letting her into our home?" She nodded. The pair looked to the young woman with the large black bag. She had wavy brown hair that was tied up and blue eyes. Wait. She opened the bag and switched the color. Her eyes were now green.

"Zoya said it was ok, Nina was one of her soldiers once,"

"But didn't she desert them?"

"She said that she's grown up and matured. Besides she's lost her love and I can relate." Esfir rubbed his back. "It's fine, hush, you always worry too much." Ilya nodded. Esfir brushed her white hair back. "I'll never be used to you being Ilya." Ilya smiled and moved her hair back forward. He caressed her cheek.

"Well then, let's greet our visitor."

Esfir grabbed Kaz by his collar not touching his skin and sat him down on a burgundy couch. She slapped him with a wet rag. "Are you ready to die?" Kaz grew a smug look on his face.

"I want something in return," he said. Nina nodded.

"Name your price,"

"25,000, Kruge."  Nina agreed, but Esfir picked up on something. Kaz could've, no should've asked for way more. Kaz nodded. Inej walked slowly to Kaz, her face full of anger. His face was growing red on the spot he was hit. She looked at him with sad eyes,

"You can't just die! What the hell not after all of this!" Ilya scoffed. Esfir gave him a scolding look.

"It's not like he can't come back to life, he's not going to stay dead." Esfir rolled her eyes. She began to explain what she meant earlier.

"What I mean is, that you are going to touch death, a comatose state. But you'll have to be really injured. Who do you trust well enough to beat you to death?"  Kaz looked to Inej. She shook her head and raised her hands.

"You can't expect me to do this!?"

"Nina will keep him from death, her abilities have been going back to what they were before, Well slightly. She can keep him from death," Ilya said. Inej put her hood down.

"I can't do this to you Kaz,"

"Come on Inej, it's the greatest heist ever. Stealing a soul from the afterlife. 25,000 Kruge. It'll be great." Kaz gulped, he hesitated. "I trust you, please, you have to beat me to death," Nina gave Inej a pleading look. She grasped Matthias' chest and choked back tears. Esfir saw one of the children poking in their head. Ilya blocked the scene from the child's eyes. Ilya ran after the child and went to calm them down.

"Inej, it's your duty to kill him." Esfir said to her. "You can save Matthias, and save Nina's peace. I mean look at her." Esfir pointed at her. "She's a mess." Nina's brown hair was still wavy, but it was unkempt and oily. "She's carrying a dead body around for Sankts sake."

Kaz looked at Inej and pleaded with her. "We need to do this," Inej looked to everyone in the room. She nodded.

"Ok, you've gotten your wish. Kaz lay down." Kaz moved down to the floor and laid down. He spread out his limbs on the floor. Inej got out her knives. She laid them down next to her. She straddled him. Everyone looked away as to give them some privacy.

"I trust you," he whispered to himself. He wanted to freak out. But he refrained. They had a duty to fulfill. For Nina. For Matthias. Kaz had the opportunity. Who else could steal something from Hell and live to tell the tale. Him. That's who.

"Sankt Petyr," Inej brought him back to focus. She brought her first knife to Kaz's left wrist. Kaz gasped in pain. The blood slowly seeped out of his wrist. Inej shuddered at the blood that flung on her face.

"Marya and Anastasia," she sliced both of Kaz's thighs. He coughed. The blood from Kaz's thighs splattered on her clothing. Tears rolled down Inej's face.

"Sankt Vladimir," she sliced his right wrist.

"Sankta Lizabeta," she struck his stomach.

"Sankta... Alina..." and the last thing Kaz remembered for falling unconscious was the crying face of Inej an the cheers of a casino.

Haha... i hope the chapter was angsty enough for all y'all. 😁
