Chapter Twenty-Seven
"What did you say?" Gabriel said in a low voice causing Dr Montgomery and Nick to look at each warily.
"We don't know what happened. Everything was secure and hidden." Dr Montgomery whispered before swallowing audibly. "I made sure everything was perfect."
"Well, you didn't try hard enough did you?" Gabriel growled taking a step closer to the pair.
"Gabriel, it wasn't Rita's fault we-"
"Shut up." Gabriel snarled, clenching his fist. "You are both to blame."
Nick jaws were clenched as he stared back at Gabriel and Dr Montgomery was looking down at her hands. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for them even though I was concerned about the files. I didn't know they had files on me. What kind of files were they?
"Gabriel." I started to say softly. Gabriel snapped his head towards me, his darkened eyes piercing into mine. "I'm sure they didn't mean for it to happen. Can we go inside now?"
Gabriel looked back at my granddad who silent throughout the whole ordeal and then looked down at the open boot. "Get rid of him and try not to mess this up either." Gabriel spat out before he started walking towards the house.
I watched him for a few seconds before I went looked at the people around me. Dr Montgomery was on her phone while Nick was pulling the dead man's body out of the boot. I shuddered and looked at my granddad who motioned towards the house.
"What files are they talking about?" I asked my granddad as we walked towards the house.
"I am assuming they were medical files." He answered looking deep in thought.
"How bad is it?" I whispered as we reached the front door.
He stopped and turned to face me. "It could be very bad for all of us. If they are medical files, whoever took it now has proof that the baby exist."
He opened the door for me and motioned for me to go in before he shut it behind him. "Why don't we just leave? Go somewhere else where nobody will know."
My granddad gave me a weak smile. "There will always be someone that finds out."
"Then we'll just go somewhere else."
"Do you want to keep running for all of eternity? Is that the kind of life you want for your child and yourself?" He asked raising a thick eyebrow.
"No."
"The best place that Gabriel can protect you the most is here. He has a lot of contact and resources here and across Europe."
I sighed and sat down on one of the sofa when we reached the living room. "I'm scared." I admitted hating how helpless I sounded.
"I know." My granddad said as he sat down beside me. He was about to say something else when Gabriel stomped into the room.
"What are you not telling me?" Gabriel asked not taking his eyes off my granddad.
"I am surprised you missed it, I thought you would have found out when you went through my family history. I guess you didn't go through it as thoroughly as you thought you did."
"This is not the time to piss me off." Gabriel spat out, looking furious.
"Did you not wonder why we survive a little longer than most Werewolves, or why we age differently?"
Gabriel didn't say anything as he just glared at him.
"Shifters." My granddad simply said while Gabriel eyes flashed with realisation.
