Finally when we reached the end of the path we were met with a huge fire and the entire camp sitting around it on tree logs, circling the perimeter of the fire. I was taken back by the size of the fire that I actually had stopped in my path as I inhaled a sharp breath of air. "That fire..is..gigantic." I comment in surprise.
Kara's amused laugh is evident from beside me. "You sound surprised." Kara also comments. Why did this camp even need such a huge fire in the first place? It's not like it's negative 0 outside and they need all the heat they can get, if anything it's only slightly chilly from the lack of sunlight heat.
"Well, isn't that...dangerous?" I ask her as I take a few seconds to skim through my dictionary of words, internally searching for the right one to use.
Kara just scoffed at my words as she starts walking up to the fire. "Anything involving fire is dangerous Lena." She informs me as if I didn't already know. I hesitantly follow Kara up to the fire in which there was just about enough space on one of the logs for me and Kara to sit.
I took my seat next to her as I could immediately feel the warmth from the fire come up and meet my bare skin. Tonight I wore some grey National City pajama shorts and a black tank top along with a grey National City zip up hoodie and some white cheerleading sneakers. Meanwhile Kara wore grey leggings with two white stripes along the sides of them and a Criminal Justice BOCES sweatshirt That had her name stitched into the left sleeve. Her hair was also up in a high pony meanwhile a few blonde strands fell in her face as if she purposely pulled out those few strands to frame her face. I suddenly felt a sudden sense of jealousy at the way she looked so beautiful in the light of the fire. I usually never felt jealousy unless I was truly intimidated by another girls beauty, any other time I usually felt like the queen, I felt invincible but only when I knew I was the most attractive person in the room. Somehow now I'm going to have to deal with Kara's intimidating beauty for the whole summer. This camp just keeps getting better and better.
Loudly from behind our row of wooden benches I watch as Kat and a few other adult supervisors came running through the paths of the benches as they made their way in between the first row of benches and the fire. They were sure to keep their safe distance from the fire as they stalked their way around the fire in circle motions as they also spun in place as they acted like animals hunting their prey. I gave them all quizzical looks as I even gave a side glance to Kara to see that she was intently watching the staff in enjoyment. What the fuck is this?
They suddenly began to make erupting noises from their guts as they grunted and growled and hissed around the fire. As this charade grew on I found my self laughing a pathetic laugh as I couldn't believe how stupid Cat looked in this moment. I had instinctively reached for the pocket of my hoodie in attempt to reach for my phone. I initially had the intention to video tape this and not only send it to Lucy and Lex but to use it for blackmail against Cat, how was it that for even a second I felt intimidated by this woman. For god sakes she's a damn joke!
"Camp Maverick!" Cat then calls out at the top of her lungs. Everyone stops around the fire and just like that I feel like my eardrums were blown out from my ears.
"Maverick campers!" Literally everyone of the campers yelled out loudly and enthusiastically.
"What are we?" Cat asked at the top of her lungs again.
"The Mavericks!" They all yelled, even Kara.
"Who are we?" She added.
"The Mavericks!" God this reminded me of high school football games.
"Where are we?"
"Camp! Maverick!" Everyone shouts in finale at the top of their lungs and all I could do is glare at everyone around me with the most annoyed look on my facial expression. Kara dragged me out of my comfy cabin to this? This is insanely childish and pathetic.
