"Lena!" Kara screamed as I took off through the woods path. For the first time ever Kara was the one who was left in the dust and not me. Given the fact that I started the jog off with a sprint and we had just began but at least for a few minutes I was beating Kara in something.
"Lena, you won't get far!" Kara called out to me again as her voice began to get louder as she got closer. "You'll just run out of breath." Kara added, no longer shouting as it was no longer necessary due to the lack of space between us now.
Kara and I were now running side by side which wasn't unusual for us anymore. I felt as if my chest was starting to deflate as foretold by Kara, I was in fact running out of breath. I still kept my pace as I remembered to breath and keep moving. Eventually I began to slow down my pace as my legs were beginning to feel like jello already. As my pace decreased, so did Kara's in order for her to keep a steady pace with me.
"Losing your breath Luthor?" Kara asked teasingly. To be honest, I probably could've ran a tad further but when I looked over to Kara I had lost my breath all together.
Kara's long golden blonde hair was tied up in its usual ponytail she wore while we ran together. She wore a grey marathon t-shirt that she probably got from participating in the event. The morning was a slight bit chilly so Kara went with some black work out leggings that stopped halfway down her calf. Kara's white sneakers topped off her outfit perfectly.
Kara was giving me a teasingly side look as she awaited my response and that's what caught my breath. The way her soft pink lips curved upwards in an almost sultry way. Her bright blue eyes never leaving mine whatsoever as she stared at me patiently. Finally I came to a stop. Kara had stopped halfway as she continued to jog in place, a knowing smile graced her face. Her expression confirmed my suspicion that Kara was purposely testing me and trying to collaborate how her actions reflect onto me.
I instinctively grew defensive after this confirmation. I showed this to Kara by crossing my arms over my chest and leaned all my weight to one side. "Absolutely not." I declared in a matter-of-fact tone that caused Kara to gaze at me challengingly.
I rolled my eyes as I could tell that by the way she rolled her eyes, she didn't believe me, and that won't slide with me. "Fine, come on. Let's go." I insisted although I still have yet to catch my breath completely.
I began to run again, although I decided that I should still take it easy, well at first. I began to only jog at first but I noticed that Kara was running the slightest bit faster than me. Envy being the complete center of my personality, as much as I hate to admit it, I pushed myself to catch up further to her. Once I did Kara pushed herself as well to run a bit further, which inspired me to do the same thing and this went on like a chain reaction all the way until I felt nothing but gravity pushing me down.
I had tripped over a branch or a root or, something because before I knew it I was lying face down on the ground. I had managed to keep my face from hitting the ground, although I also managed to land partly in the leaves along the trail.
Kara must've heard me fall because within seconds I heard her call out my name before she ran towards me in order to provide aid. "Lena! Are you okay?" Kara called out as her hand rested upon my arm.
I grunted as I began to pull myself off the ground and dust the dirt off my body. "Yeah I'm-" before I could finish my sentence Kara jumped back from me as if she saw a huge wolf hunter spider.
Well maybe not in Kara's case as she's oddly fascinated by spiders, but it'd be the situation that would make me jump back like that. "Shit, Lena get up!" Kara insisted although she kept her distance from me.
I furrowed my eyebrows together in confusion as I tried to congregate why she sounded so exhorted. "Why!?" I asked urgently while I stood up but my legs remained off the path but in the leaves.
