"Kara! Knock it off!" I sternly called out at Kara's childish movements. Her amused laughter filled the empty space around us as we allowed the Canoe to drift far the the camps view, the only substance around us was the reflecting blue lake and the fish swimming within the cool waters.
"Oh, come on. Are you scared?" Kara teased as she purses out her lips in contemplation.
I arched a thin, dark eyebrow towards the blonde. "Of a common potential danger hazard, uh, yeah!" I responded in a matter-of-fact tone, refusing to lighten up my perplexed glare on the girl.
Kara rolled her eyes in response, sucking at her teeth as she dismissed the joy she was having and continued to row the boat aimlessly along the river. I shook my head disappointedly at her but I didn't say anything to her. I felt bad for getting strict on her but I can't fight an impulse, especially when it's to put an end to a stupid behavior. As silence washed over us the sun was starting to set, making me wonder how long we've really been out here on the lake, just the two of us. We spent the majority of the day with the campers, showing them the basics to Kayaking and at some point along the day while the sun was just starting to settle into the west, it had to have been roughly two or three o clock already when Kara insisted that we take a trip of our own, and no way was I going to pass that up. However now the sky is starting to gradually fade into a light, smoky purple color as it nears night, the luminous moon starting to shine brighter through its hidden surface. The million acres of forest trailing along each side of the lake held its own immense darkened power beneath its pitch black shadows, hiding the beauty of what relies in the light of day, the atmosphere changing around us but the connection between our eyes never cowered, never fell. It was so enthralling and neither one of us could look away, and even if we could, we didn't. Finally I no longer felt mad at the brave blonde as I allowed a small smile to appear on my face, her blue eyes flickering down just slightly before reconnecting the tension of the eye contact between us. "Where are we going?" I ask curiously, my tone could've easily been faded out if anyone else was around but to my preference it was just me and Kara, and oddly enough the sanctuary of nature surrounding us, submerging us in its blanket of silence and secrecy.
"I wasn't really thinking that far ahead." Kara confessed as she began to scan the area around us, seeking any landmarks that would help her navigate where exactly we were. Her eyes continued to scan endless layers of forest trailing both ends of the lake, as if she was serious on trying to figure out where we were.
Just then impulse took over me. A need within me made my body move, I just didn't put up a hassle. I fell into the swift movements. I reached out across the distance between us, I placed my hands flatly on her knees to direct her attention towards me. My head tilted back as my eyes looked up, awaiting to be met with Kara's. My gesture accepted by her as her baby blue eyes meet mine.
All I could do is smile at her for a few seconds, despite already knowing what I wanted to say to her. "I didn't mean it like I wanted to go back," my words low and inviting. Kara's eyes widen like big wide doe eyes, instinctively flashing a dorky, wide smile. "I like when it's just us." I winked, a deep blush rushing to her cheeks as her eyes filled with joy.
"I do, too. You're company has been my favorite thing about camp this year." Her eyes fell to the floor during her confession but like always found their way back again as if our eyes were meant to look into each other's.
It sure felt like it.
"Why do you keep talking about this like we're gonna end?" I pry my hands off her knee caps as I pullback from her, eyeing her in fear. Is this her trying to end things already?
Kara flustered for her words. "How are we gonna stay connected like we are now?"
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Have you heard of social media? It's the most advanced, updating software out there. It can be very useful in situations like these. Besides I come from a multi-billionaire company, I can literally take a jet to come see you whenever I please." Realizations crosses Kara's face.
