Winter time. Cold, dead. Nothing beautiful. That's what many people thought. Not Kaliam. He loved when it snowed. The icy crystals falling from the sky. He would run out of his tent and spin around in the fields, while others stayed inside trying to stay warm.
Kaliam saw beauty in the world, no matter how it looked. He always found something beautiful about it. Even when he was in the middle of a hard time in his life he still saw beauty. His mate thought he was crazy. So did many others.
"Kaliam, how can you be smiling?!" His mate cried. He knelt beside the bed Kaliam lay on. "We just lost our child! H-how..? How can you be happy?!" There were bandages wrapped around Kaliams chest and head. His stomach was bruised and now flat. Another tribe had came and killed many people in his tribe. The smell of blood still hung in the air.
"Don't you see, Rakyna?" Kaliam spoke in his soft voice. "The first flower of spring just blossomed." Rakyna looked in the direction Kaliam was looking. Through a crack in between the large animal skins that constructed the tent, a single flower could be seen. It swayed in the winter breeze, but managed to stay up. It's purple petals showing. Rakyna just cried even more, gripping onto Kaliam and shaking him.
"What's wrong with you?! Didn't you hear me?! We lost our baby!" He slumped down, holding his head. "Why Kaliam..?" Kaliam didn't say a word. He kept staring at the flower, struggling to live. A single tear streamed down his dirtied face.

It was getting warmer out now that spring was nearly here. The bandages around Kaliam were just switched out to fresh ones. He still wasn't a hundred percent, but could now walk."I'm going to see how Rakyna is doing." Kaliam smiled, throwing a shawl around his small body. The male who was watching him gave a smile.
"Alright, be careful." Kaliam nodded, heading out. Some people still looked at him worriedly or with a mean face as he walked past. He had lost a child in the most horrible way, but yet he still smiled like nothing happened.
Rakyna was supposed to be in the forest cutting wood. Kaliam examined the beautiful flowers that sprung up in different places.
"Rakyna??" He called, cupping his hands over his mouth. There was no reply. Kaliam sighed, but smiled. He walked farther into the forest. Every so often running his fingers over a plant. "Rakyna? Where are you.." He stopped in his tracks, looking up. Horror written all over his face. There, at least three feet in front of him was Rakyna. A large gash went across his throat. The axe he had brought with him was covered in blood and still in his hand. "Rakyna!" Kaliam ran over, collapsing to the ground beside his mates body. "What have you done?!" Tears spilled out of his eyes and fell to the ground. He tilted his head up and screamed at the top of his lungs. "Rakyna.!"

Kaliam woke up screaming and crying. He held his chest, Tears streaming down his face. Breeze awoken, running over to his side."What?! Are you alright?" Kaliam was breathing heavily. Sweat had formed on his forehead.
"Rakyna...n-no.." he collapsed into Breezes arms. Breeze looked down at the younger male, slightly confused by all this. He sighed, pulling himself onto the bed with Kaliam. Him still in his arms as he fell back asleep.
I know it's short.. 592 words. But It's a little flashback and every word packs a punch 😉
