"Two more months. Everything is looking good so far." Rin put Rehanah's shirt back down after feeling around his swollen belly. Rehanah sat up and looked at Duran who didn't even stare at him since that day. "Come back next month for another check up." Rin gave
a light smile and glanced over
at Duran. He walked out without saying a word. Rehanah quickly followed behind, pulling the shawl around his body. He was fourteen now and cooped up inside all day while other kids his age played outside.
Breeze was outside playing with his brothers. Luca jumped on top of him, but Breeze swung him over his shoulder. He stopped once he saw Rehanah walking beside his father.
"Hey, Rehanah! Wanna go to the creek with me?" He had such a big smile that Rehanah wished he could say yes. Duran glared down at him and shook his head. Rehanah tried ignoring Breeze and kept walking forward. He couldn't bare to see or hear Breeze without crying. Luca kept trying to wrestle with Breeze, but he didn't pay mind. He only paid mind to how Rehanah rejected his invite when usually he'll be running to be by his side.
All that night as Breeze lay in bed, he wondered why Rehanah didn't want to be with him. Was he not a good mate. Did he change his mind? Breeze pulled up one of the animal skins from underneath his three annoying brothers. He sighed, looking out the crack in between the animal skins covering the entrance. It was rather quiet that night in the tribe. All Breeze could think about was Rehanah. He wanted things to go back to how they were. Where they would chase each other through the corn fields, sometimes getting in trouble. See who could hold their breathe longer under water. And like that one day where they kissed in a tree and finally confessed their love for each other. If only the past could rewind itself.
