I opened my eyes to blinding light. I yawned and, for a moment, forget where I was. Then it came flooding back. I looked around. The cave was empty. "Ailong? Ailong!? Where are you?" Panic filled me, and I leapt to my feet.

"Don't worry Ming. Ailong outside cave." As I walked out of the cave, a lump of snow fell from the top of the opening, and plopped onto my head. A deep rumbling sound filled my ears, and it was only after a few moments of looking around did I realise it was Ailong laughing.

'His mouth isn't moving,' I thought.

"That's because dragons can't speak."

"Aah! I didn't even say anything! Can you read my mind or something?"

"No. Well, kind of. Only certain things, like things about me. Like I talk to you with my mind, but you don't read my every thought."

"This is amazing!" Ailong smiled.

"I like you," said Ailong. "You can call me Ai. Makes me feel special when people call me Ai, because that's what my mum called me."

"Okay, Ai." He beamed down at me. Suddenly, he lifted his head, looking around. He put a paw on my shoulder, and gently pushed me forward.

"Do you trust me?" He asked.

"Yes. Yes, I trust you."

"Okay. Get comfortable." So I lay on the ground and curled up. Ai smiled, so I think I'm doing it right. Then he wrapped his long body around me, and continued to wrap up, making a dome over me. Then, I heard him blow, and suddenly earth and grass and rock covered him. My eyes widened.

"Be quiet. No noise. Or they will hear."

"They wh..." Ai put a paw over my mouth. Just in time. A group of guards ran past, looking around.

'Oh no,' I thought. My nose tickled. Then itched. Then I sneezed. The guards whirled around. They where coming back.

"You said you trust me?" I nodded. Ai moved a little, then pushed me gently out from under his body. "Go. Move. Run. Anything. Get to cliff. Make sure they follow you. I have a plan."

I ran. My legs pounded, my arms pumped, my breath came in ragged gasps, but I still ran. The guards ran too. They circled around me, running through the trees, pushing me towards the cliff. Then it was right behind me. I turned, stumbled, and almost fell, but regained my balance and took a few steps forwards.

"Get over here, girl!" Cried a rough voice. Fear filled my eyes.

"Now there, we don't speak to ladies like that!" Said another man, his voice gentle. He took a step forward, and I drew back. "It's okay," he said, raising his hands, "I don't want to hurt you. I just want you to come with us. My name is Huang. Now, where is the dragon who brought you here?"

The first thing that popped into my head was "he left me here. Said I was a waste of his time, and flew away."

"Good," Ai's voice popped into my head. "Now, take a few steps back, and jump."

'What!?' I cried. 'You want me to jump!?'

"Trust me. I won't let you fall."

The man took a step towards me. I stepped back, then another step, then another. My heel jutted out over the cliff edge, and as I fell the man cried "no!" and he reached out to grab me, but his fingers only brushed my wrist before I fell. Suddenly, I was flying up, up, up, high into the sky, on Ai's back, and he whirled through the air.

"Shoot it down!" Cried Huang, his eyes filled with rage. He was definitely imperial. "Make sure the girl survives!"

"Fly, Ai! Up, go, you have to get away!" But Ai just hovered in mid air, his eyes trained on the guards. Then, he opened his mouth, and roared, and with his roar came fire, earth, ice, water, rock, and a huge gust of air. The guards cried out and ran, those who were not blown over. Yet, Huang stood through the whole thing, and I knew I would see him again.
