Daybreak brought new troubles. The rush of waking how I had had somewhat dulled my senses. Now, everything was back to normal. It was the pain that actually woke me up. A jabbing, searing pain in my leg. But I kept my eyes closed. Until I realised that the ground, which should have been cold, was warm and wet. I opened my eyes to see a pool of blood beneath me. I looked at myself to see that I was covered in tiny cuts and bruises, but that a massive splinter had lodged itself in my right leg, and I had a huge cut down my left. And by huge, I mean from my knee to just above my ankle.
I groaned in pain and tried to sit up, but fell back down in pain. I screamed and screamed and didn't care who heard. The Emperor and his Healers had to be better than this. I pressed my hands against the cut, which did nothing to stem the flow of blood. I grabbed leaves from the tree and pressed them tightly on the cut in small fistfuls. They also didn't help. It was then that I started to cry.
I was going to die out here, alone in the cold. If even Huang were here I would feel better. I don't want to die alone. I don't want to die.
The tears dripped into the gash, stinging even more than the splinter. I cried even more as the blood left my body. Splits started to dot my vision, and the trees began to blur. I heard a nearby growl, like the sound the wild animals make. At least someone would make good of me. Several large creatures were making their way towards me, most likely wolves. Everything darkened and dulled, and I slipped into darkness
