The wind was blowing so strongly that I could barely keep hold of Ai. He had offered to carry my clothes bundle and I had gladly handed it over to have a firmer grip.

"You alright Ming?" Asked Bao, who was gripping Chang, the girl dragon, as tightly as I gripped Ai.

"Yeah. Yes, I'm fine."

"Lower yourself down a little on my back, it'll make it easier to stay on." So I lowered my body until I was lying on Ai's back, my arms wrapped gently, but firmly, around his neck. Bao followed my example and lay down on Chang. We flew like that for who knows how long. But finally, I began to grow drowsy, and my grip began to weaken. Then, before I realised what had happened, I was plummeting down to the trees far below.

"Ai! Bao! Help!" Ai turned and dove, his wings curled in against his body as he tried to catch up to me.

"Ming!" Bao screamed, spinning Chang to face me. She dove down after Ai, but couldn't catch up to him, let alone me. I screamed again, then everything went black as I hit a tree.

My eyes cracked open to the light of thousands of stars. There was something different about a patch, though. There were no stars, and-

"What is that?" The dark patch was moving. The more I studied it, the more it appeared to look like a dragon. I was about to call out, believing it to be Ai or Chang, but the creature roared, a deep, throaty, primal scream that sounded nothing like the dragons I knew. I cowered beneath a bush, leaning against the trunk of the tree I had fallen from. Finally, I fell into a fitful sleep.
