                Paulmer pov:

                I couldn’t believe my ears when she told me. She was coming home on her own accord. My mate was coming home with me tonight. I looked over at her in my passenger and I internally smiled. I felt myself relax for the first time in a year. I finally had her.

                “I want to discuss something with you.” I was shocked she’d spoken to me. I had to remember that she wasn’t the same girl before. She was different. I would miss the old her but I certainly wasn’t going to complain about this new confidence she had. I rather liked it.

I nodded at her to go on. I wasn’t one for talking. “I’m coming home with you because I’m Beta of this pack. But I want to be friends with you,” She turned in her seat so she could look at me and I looked at her from the corner of my eye. Her curls tumbled around her shoulders and her eyes shined like the stars in the sky. Her lips two pink plums what were stretched into a wonderstruck smile.

She wanted to be friends. My wolf screamed no but I knew better than to listen to him. I needed to show her that that night so long ago was a mistake. I never rejected her. But I didn’t exactly welcome her with open arms. But it’s driven me crazy, being away from her. I wanted to mark her. Make her mine. I would just have to have patience.

“I want that to.” Her smile widened and I could feel the corners of my mouth tugging up slightly. Only she can make me smile. My mate. I could feel her eyes on me so I looked over at her and raised an eyebrow.

“Sorry, I’m sorry. Staring is rude, I know. It’s just, I never pictured this happening.” My eyebrows came together in the middle. Pictured what happening? Me bringing her back from another pack? Yeah, I never pictured that either.

“You. I never thought I’d even be friends with you.” Ok, I would have never pictured that either. “I used to dream about though. I used to wake up every morning, and say: Today is the day I’ll talk to Paulmer. I’m going to legitimately say hi and then go celebrate with a cupcake.” I could tell the corners of my mouth tugging up again. Why didn’t she though? Was it because of my friends?

“But I didn’t and I know what you’re thinking and no it wasn’t because of your retarded friends. It was because I was so sure that we were going to be mates ya know? So I thought I’d save my first words to you for the bonfire. Bunch a luck that did me.” She laughed but I knew better. She was hurt. I took my hand off the wheel and hesitated before putting it back on the wheel.

For the thousandth time today though she surprised me by taking my hand off the wheel and intertwining our fingers together. I shuddered at the warmth her hand gave me. It felt like flames were licking at my palms.

“We’re friends now. And you’re my mate. It’s fine if you hold my hand.”  I didn’t say anything. I just squeezed her hand to let her know I’d heard her. A smile spread across her face, lighting up the dark night. I heard a stirring in the back and looked into the review mirror to see Demetre wake up. It’s about time. He rubbed his eyes and started mumbling incoherent things. He looked around and I saw his eyes widen when they laid on Kairi. His eyes narrowed and I didn’t like the way he started staring at her.
