This was the most nervous Evan had ever been. This was worse than every presentation, every crowd, and every person he'd had to reject since he and Connor had started dating(which had been a lot, apparently the confidence Evan got from Connor made him attractive). Forget all of that because today was the day. The day when everything could go so completely wrong.
As Evan began to go through every single wrong outcome he heard the car door open. Connor slid into the driver's seat and started up the car.
"So we're going to the orchard right?" Connor said brightly, pulling the car out of his driveway. Evan knew it was already pathetic that he had to have his Connor drive Evan to the spot where Evan would ask him to prom, but he couldn't do anything about it. Evan's anxiety was so bad he couldn't even drive. Evan was broken out of his downward spiral by realizing he never answered Connor.
"Oh, um... yeah. That's where I want to um go, sorry" Evan couldn't bring himself to look at his boyfriend, he was afraid that it would make him lose what little nerve he had. Connor picked up on this instantly.
"Why are you so scared babe? You haven't acted this nervous since we first met. It's not like we're going somewhere super busy or anything. We're going ot the orchard, where we go every other weekend," Evan smiled slightly, still not willing to look up at Connor.
It felt like years before they got to the orchard, but it was really just a few minutes. Connor stepped out of the car and walked over to Evan's side to let him out. Of course Evan was completely capable of getting out of the car himself, he was just so lost in thought he didn't realize the car had stopped.
Connor leaned over Evan and unbuckled him, then kissed him on the cheek. Evan turned very pink, "I c-can get out of the car on my own,"
Connor laughed, "I know, it's just so much fun to help you," Connor kept laughing as Evan mumbled indignantly about being able to do things. The two started walking silently up the hill until Connor saw something.
"What the-" He paused to lean down and retrieve something on the ground, "Who would leave a perfectly good book on the ground?"
Evan smiled to himself, "W-what's the title?"
Connor brushed it off slightly before telling Evan that it was a book called "Will and won't" of course Evan already knew this. He had put the book there the day before.
This was all apart of his promposal. He had taken into account of his boyfriend's love of reading and puzzles(sorry, I have this HC that Connor really likes to solve puzzles). Each book along the trail would start with a word that went into a sentence, will you go to prom with me? It was ridiculous how long it had taken Evan to find the right books.
So the walk went on, they would walk and talk for a while before Connor would spot another book. Once Connor had been so caught up in the conversation he almost missed a book. Evan had to awkwardly point it out. That was the point where Connor started getting suspicious. Evan could see the gears in his brain turning.
By then they had the words will, you, and go. But without the other books, it was difficult to catch on to what exactly the puzzle was. When they got to the last book, Connor spotted it far off, now he was looking for the books. he ran back towards Evan with four books in his hand, Evan was carrying the other three."That's all of them right?" Connor said to Evan while sitting on the ground and laying his books out in front of him.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Evan said sitting down next to his boyfriend and switching the order of two books."I'll take that as a yes,"
Connor arranged the books in the order they had been found then started studying them. Evan watched Connor the whole time, smiling about the concentrated look on Connor's face. When he was torking on puzzles, he would lean on his fist and bite on his thumbnail slightly. Evan found this impossibly adorable.
After around five minutes Connor looked up at Evan, "Yes,"
"What?" Evan said, suprised, and momentarily forgetting that that was the answer he wanted.
"I'll go to prom with you," Connor smiled and pulled Evan into a kiss. Evan let the kiss melt away all the worry he had been feeling leading to this moment.
"But just so you know," Connor said pulling away from Evan, "I'm a little dissapointed,"
Evan's face fell and he began to babble about how it wasn't well thought out and he was sorry, Connor cut him off, "I'm not disappointed with your way of asking, this was amazing Evan really. It couldn't have been better. It's just that I was going to ask you tomorrow, so that's all planned out too,"
Evan couldn't believe his ears. If he'd waited a day he wouldn't have had to do this?
