"No, no. They were married. I swear."
Right now I'm pacing back and forth in Asa's living room, thinking over my situation.
My parents never got married? "A-Asa?"
He looks at me questioningly. "Yeah?"
"Should I... do you think it'd be a good idea if I called my father back?"
"Well, do you want to?"
"I," I sigh. "I really don't know." I plop back down on the couch next to Asa. "It's the only way to find out."
"What about your mum?"
I shake my head. "Not an option at the moment." If I told her she would know that I called him back and I would be in deep shit. "Should I call him?"
"Honestly, I think it's the best option."
"Okay," I sigh. "Wait... I left my phone at home and I'm kinda mad at mom."
"Well, do you remember his number?" I pucker my lips and shake my head.
After a while, Asa turns the television on and I eventually fall asleep.
---
"Yeah-- no, mum, she had a bad day."
"And she's asleep on the couch because...?"
"Because she's going through something really bad right now and she's exhausted. Can we just let her sleep?"
"Fine, I want her gone by tomorrow morning... afternoon the latest."
"She lives across the street."
I hear Asa's mom's footsteps walk away and Asa sigh, but I don't say anything. I don't want them to know I eavesdropped.
Next thing I know I'm being carries bridal style, but I fall asleep before I feel my body hit the cloud if Asa's bed.
---
When I wake up, it's about 3:00 a.m. Asa's awake on the couch in his room on his phone.
"Mmm..." I make that weird, stretching noise. "Hey, Asa."
He turns around to face me. "Hey, Francesca. Sleep well?"
"Mhm," I lie.
Francesca, are you sure your parents were ever married?
I don't know Asa, I wish I did, but I don't.
"Should I go home? It's three in the morning, but I wont wake my mom. She's a heavy sleeper-"
"Francesca, you can stay. It's fine."
"But your mom-"
"What about my mom?"
"She doesn't like me."
"Fran, she doesn't even know you."
"Oh." I decide not to talk, I have a bad case of word vomit when I'm tired. I wouldn't want him to know I was eavesdropping on his and his mothers conversation. "Ace?"
"Yeah?"
Oh my god, here comes the word vomit! "I'm hungry." Well, better than anything else.
Asa laughs and makes his way downstairs, soon returning with a box of chocolate chip cookies.
God, I love this boy.
GAH NO, YOU DON'T,
you'll just end up getting hurt...---
