He didn't want to believe it was Taehyung, but he had to. The voice didn't lie-the head of blonde didn't lie- nothing did.
Only Taehyung lied.
Hoseok turned his papers around in his hands, deciding that he would keep the paperwork for another time. What he needed was coffee. He grabbed his mug, though his thoughts barged into his cleared head.
I think Yoongi remembers me.
What would Yoongi have even recalled about Taehyung? Sure, he recognised his face, but even Hoseok wasn't sure that that had anything to do with what Taehyung did- whatever he did.
There came another question- how did Taehyung even know Yoongi? Hoseok had never spilled anything about the case, apart from the fact that whoever he was treating was a sleepwalker.
How did he know so much?
Hoseok rubbed his head as he took a small sip of bitter coffee, allowing the bland, mediocre instant coffee to fill his mouth and burn his insides. A normal person wouldn't drink coffee hot like he did, but perhaps he was just a bit of a masochist. The burning made him feel better about what he couldn't control.
He was doing a great job pushing the thoughts away and evading further thinking, but the words snuck back. The sight of the radiology room snuck back into the back of his head.
If he finds out about us then we're both screwed.
It's just you. You didn't have to kill them.
As much as Hoseok wanted to deny it all, he couldn't- he heard what he heard, Taehyung said what he said.
Taehyung did what he did.
Taehyung killed someone-or-many someones.
He didn't get much context, but he was smart enough to know that they were discussing Yoongi's case. The people that died in his case were his family members.
Hoseok's hand tightened around his mug as he swallowed something more than the dark liquid. Something like regret mixed with anxiety and disbelief, spiralling inside him to form a deadly concoction of manipulation. Something like that.
Whatever it was, he didn't like it.
The junior resident almost jumped out of his own skin and smashed his mug when he heard the door to the office opening. His knuckles whitened visibly with the clutch he had on the handle of the cup.
It didn't help that the person who walked in had bouncing blonde locks and a wide smile plastered on his face, bounding in as if he was innocent as a saint. Hoseok stayed undetected for the time Taehyung was inside the office- he was shielded by the door to the kitchen and the fact that the other never bothered to look through the mirror of the kitchen. He could see what Taehyung was doing- grabbing a sheet of paper, probably paperwork.
Hoseok only noticed that he hadn't been breathing when he heard the slamming of a door, a sign that Taehyung had left. His hands felt clammy and the mug was slowly slipping from his previously harsh grip. Hoseok breathed out, a large puff of relief from the tension he was harbouring inside him. He felt somewhat disgusted at how easily Taehyung could pretend that he was a harmless, innocent creature when he wasn't. All the times Hoseok had talked to him, he was probably lying through his teeth. He knew about Yoongi. He knew about Hoseok.
Rightfully, he knew everything.
Perhaps Hoseok could insist on speeding up the process. Maybe he could get the plan carried out faster, because it was honestly just up to him to ask Namjoon for the green light. Call it taking advantage of Namjoon's kindness, but Hoseok knew that he'd agree immediately. A gut feeling.
Then again, the feeling of anticipation was shrouded with something else. The truth would be out, and Hoseok didn't know what the hell would happen the moment Yoongi muttered those words of confirmation. That was, if he remembered anything. If he wasn't lying the whole time and if he managed to see more of his dream just from walking a bit more.
The odds were high that a known criminal would lie through his teeth just to get his freedom, but the scale was balanced by how desperate Yoongi seemed. Desperation sucks the malice out of someone, but sometimes, just sometimes, people do anything to get what they need. It was like if somebody who was trapped in a desert for three days found water. He'd scramble to it immediately, and the thirst and desperation for water would make him belligerent if anyone stood in his way.
Everything was a matter of desperation. An even and odd situation-something Hoseok couldn't decipher properly.
But he'd gotten the proof, the things he heard, and if that wasn't enough, he didn't know what was. All he needed was affirmation.
