prepare yourselves !

of course he was fired.

what else had the raven expected?

maybe a bit of empathy, or maybe an ounce of mercy. but of course reality was a large serving of harsh, cold words; words of his boss telling him he was fired, end of story.

of course yuuri tried to explain. he tried to explain personal affairs had reached their climax and he had no choice. but no was no and that was the end of the story.

"hey, it's alright," viktor sighed, scratching the back of his neck as he glanced down at the depressed boy sitting on the edge of the bed. "you can find another. it's alright."

yuuri didn't respond.

"i—if they didn't even bother to try and understand, then they were never the best people to be around, anyway," he whispered. he then sighed gently and leaned down onto his knees, looking into dark, sad brown eyes. "look at me, yuuri."

he didn't.

"yuuri, please, look at—"

"you d—don't understand," yuuri whispered, his lip trembling. "n—nobody will,"

"tell me what i don't understand," viktor replied then, taking the brunette's small hands into his palms. "maybe then i can."

yuuri's eyes flashed fear.

"u—uncle," he gasped out a breath, his eyes growing wider. he was staring off into an abyss. "h—he said i—if i ever l—lost this j—job, he would k—kill me, what am i g—going to do, i w—wanted to die but n—not in h—his hands a—and—"

"yuuri,"

"he's going to murder me because he g—got me that job and i h—had to d—drop out of highschool for that job a—and—"

"yuuri, stop, look at me—"

"a—and i m—miss high school i m—miss being at least a little normal and i m—miss my p—parents and i m—miss the feeling of losing oxygen under the water of that river and i—"

"yuuri!" viktor yelled, his eyes wide. he wasn't mad. he wasn't disappointed. he wasn't anything. he was just sad for this beautiful boy and was sad he couldn't do more than offer his house and his arms to hold him close. he was sad he couldn't be enough.

yuuri finally stopped, looking up into his eyes. and viktor's fell closed.

"don't say that," he whispered, squeezing his hands tighter. "don't ever say you miss the feeling of losing your life ever again."

yuuri's eyes flashed guilt.

"it makes me feel like i can't do anything to help you."

viktor rested his head on yuuri's knees, taking deep breaths. he wanted to help him. he wanted to give him the world. he wanted to make him smile. he wanted to hear that laugh. he wanted to hold him close. he wanted to express his care for him. he wanted to hear yuuri say that he never wanted to leave him.
