I was hanging out at Sean's house as usual, studying for our English Final. I loved studying with my boyfriend. Lying on his chest, listening to Shakespeare with his arms around me was simply glorious. He was perfect for me. We had been dating each other for the past one-and-half years and I was hopelessly in love!
But that day, something was out of order. He didn't let me sleep on his chest and took a long step away from me when I tried to kiss him.
"I am worried about our tests" He answered my questioning look.
"Since when?" I asked. Sean was not one of those people who stressed during tests. Something was wrong. I saw it in his eyes.
"Let's watch the game" Sean ignored my question and focused on the re-run of a football match on TV. I was hurt by his sudden distant, cold demeanor and wondered what in the hell was wrong.
"Here you go, Neveah. It's your favorite - Coconut Mosta. I made them specially for you" Sean's mom attracted my attention by waving a bowl of delicious coconut cookies in front of me.
"Awww... that's so sweet of you, Mrs. Rodriguez. Thank you so much. You are such a doll" I reached out to pick one.
"You should stop feeding her, Ma. She's a cow as it is; you don't have to turn her into a fucking whale!" Sean said, his words dripped with disgust and bitterness. His words kicked the wind out of me and sent a cold blade straight through my heart. His mom gave him an ugly look while I stared at him, shocked.
"That was extremely mean, Sean. You should know better. Apologize to her this instant" Mrs. Rodriguez scolded her son.
Sean ignored us completely and stomped into his room, cursing under his breath.
"Examination stress" I quickly composed myself and reassured Mrs. Rodriguez. She looked at me with worry written all over her face.
"I will just go and talk to him" I gave Mrs. Rodriguez a small smile and went to Sean's room. He stood there with his back towards me and stared out of the window. I cleared my throat.
"We need to talk, Neveah" I sensed tension in his voice. I got that gut feeling that something awful was about to happen. He took a deep breath and crossed his arms.
" I think we should break up. This is not working out"
" WHAT?" I was surprised beyond words. The last thing I expected to hear was a break up speech. Everything was normal till then.
"You heard me" He said with a tone of finality.
I was speechless. Air was sucked out of me and I couldn't breathe.
"Bu-But you said you lov-loved me" I stammered.
"I did"
"Why are you doing this? Everything was normal between us till now"
"IT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE FAT!" He looked at me in disgust.
"Wha-what?" Tears started clouding my eyes.
"Don't make a scene out of it, Neveah"
I took a sharp breath and tried to hold my tears.
"You are breaking up with me because you are embarrassed to be seen with me. Is that what you are saying? "I asked, trying to keep my shaking voice in control.
"Keep your voice down. You don't get it, Neveah. It's hard to love you. I have been trying for the past one and half years. It's just not happening. It's very difficult to get past your weight. I tried a lot, okay; now don't give me that look." He said uncomfortably.
"Why the hell did you tag me along for so long if you were going to dump me on account of my weight?" I asked him coldly.
"You have a pretty face and brains to go with it but you don't have the kind of body that would appeal to me or any other guy in this world. My type has always been someone like Roxy-"
"You arrogant jerk; you are comparing me with your ex. Are you dumping me to get back together with her precious body?"
"I have always told you that your weight bothered me. I thought you'd lose some weight by now. That didn't happen. To tell you the truth, I am tired of dating a fat chick. I don't want to date a girl who is the laughing stock in her school. I am sick of being called the chubby chaser. I am embarrassed to be acknowledged as your boyfriend. I can do so much better! And I don't think you'll be able to lose weight even if you try. You'll never be my type of girl even if you somehow manage to shed all that fat"
I had heard enough. I grabbed my things ran out of his house as fast as I could. People stared at me. I was a vision when I ran. My fat rolls and thighs jingled with each step. I wished I was a normal person with a normal life.
I was not... I was a big fat binger!
