Thank you so much for your awesome support on ‘The Meal Plan’. TMP received over 1000 reads and reached top 100 (#88) in the Non-Fiction category on 26th August 2012.

 

I have been asked whether 'The Meal Plan' is based on a true since it is listed in the non-fic category. This story is a combination of reality and imagination. However, It has more truth to it than fiction. So, I listed it in the non-fic section.

I was one of those people who dreaded summer.  I learnt the importance of looks on a summer before my thirteenth birthday. That year, I attended a summer programme called ‘Bridge to High School’. It was a one month long tour programme where we visited important museums in the country.

 

We reached Washington D.C. after a week long journey. The list of things to pack had not indicated how warm May in D.C. could be, so the first day, when it was 90 degrees, a lot of kids were suffering out in the heat. So, that evening, my friends and I went to a nearby mall to buy shorts.  The students were warned that if our outfits were inappropriate, we’d be asked to change.

 

At that point in my life, I just started to realize that I was overweight. At the age of 13, I was a 5'2" and 135 lbs looked odd on my body. My boobs were large, and I had a "feminine" shape. In 7th grade,   majority of girls were skinny and no one was over a size 4 - I was already a size 8. But, this was 2 months after my first doctor's appointment where I was told that I needed to drop a few pounds, so the whole idea of being overweight was new to me. So I grabbed a pair of short shorts, in an 8, made sure they fit-I wanted them to still look appropriate, and bought them.

 

Next morning, I donned my brand new shorts and joined others kids waiting in the lobby. Mrs. Smith, one of our chaperones was checking on people’s clothes. She had a list in her hand and everyone had to stop and check their name off with her. A large number of girls were wearing really short shorts, and Mrs. Smith didn't notice them. I felt relieved. I approached Mrs. Smith to check in to the breakfast room, I said hello and walked forward. But then,
