Why did Enoch have to be like this? He didn't like her as more than a friend, as much as Olive wished it, so why was he so protective of her? She knew he didn't like Noah but to make accusations and present him as a danger was too much. Olive tried to stop frowning, something she did rarely as she neared the end of the garden. Noah's freckled face and grin met her as he leant against the shed.

It was quiet in this part of the garden and only faint voices could be heard from where the younger boys were playing football. Even Bronwyn's usually loud voice was reduced to a hum at this distance. Fiona had done a wonderful job of looking after the vegetable garden, a task she enjoyed doing with Hugh -and its beauty always a,axed Olive who rarely came down this far into the garden.

They spoke about how Noah was finding it here and Olive told him stories of some things that had happened here years ago. They made him laugh and he shared some of his memories. It was nice getting to know him better and Olive was starting to trust him. The clouds grew darker and the other children went inside. They stayed and lay down on the grass, staring at the sky and pointing at shapes in the clouds.

Olive remembered the first summer she spent here with Enoch. They had lay on the grass and looked up at the clouds. It was her happiest memory, feeling so free and for the first time she had felt loved. She had a family here and Enoch was the best friend she could have asked for. Now she was doing the same with Noah and it didn't feel right. She missed Enoch.

"You look upset. Are you okay?" Noah asked as Olive sat up, feeling nostalgic.
She ran her hands through her hair and sighed, putting on the smile she had perfected through the years of hiding her pain.

"Yeah I'm fine. Enoch's being annoying but he'll get over it."
Noah's face clouded over at the mention of Enoch and he sat up too.

"It's getting dark now. Maybe we should go inside? I've really enjoyed spending time with you today," Olive said, standing up and brushing the grass off her dress.

Noah stood up and in a second he had Olive pushed up against the wall of the shed, barely an inch between his face and hers.
"Forget about Enoch, you are mine. You hear me? I don't want you spending time with that loser or any of the other brats in this place. You do what I say and don't tell anyone, understood?"

Olive shook in his arms and was so speechless at this sudden outburst in behaviour that all she could do was stare at Noah's angry face and hope he let go of her. She was trapped between him and the shed and just wanted to get away. He loosened his grip on her elbows but the next thing she knew, his lips were on hers and he was kissing her. She turned her head away and managed to wriggle free, running as fast as she could into the house, tears streaming down her porcelain face.
