Enoch mainly felt anger towards Noah, he wanted to get revenge on the new boy for treating poor Olive like this. But then he realised anger was no use for now as he had a crying girl in front of him, worried that he would be angry with her. Enoch was never really one for comforting, but seeing his best friend so upset - it sparked a new emotion in him and he wrapped his arms around Olive. She relaxed into the hug and buried her head in his chest, gripping his shoulders while he held her.
"Go on," Olive sobbed. "Say 'I told you so'. Laugh at me for being so naïve. You were right. You were right about everything. I was stupid and Noah-" Her voice broke and her shoulders slumped. Enoch held her tighter and stroked her hair until her tears fell silently. It pained him to see Olive this way. He would never say those things. Yes, he may be selfish and sarcastic and stubborn, he was the first to admit it - but Enoch also had a heart. He wanted to comfort Olive, not mock her. This wasn't about him being right; this was about Olive being hurt and him trying to make it better.
He held her shoulders and looked into her big greenish-grey eyes, still brimming with tears.
"Olive. This isn't about point scoring. I don't care that I'm right. I care about you and you're hurt. This wasn't your fault. I said those things because I was angry. I was jealous. Of Noah. I didn't want to be nasty; I was just worried about you." Enoch spoke softly and he realised he'd never been this open or this caring with anyone except Olive.
"Thank you," she whispered and attempted a smile.
She hadn't seen this side of Enoch before but it made her happy to know he really did care about her. When she came into his room, she expected him to be snappy or make fun of her. He had warned her to stay away from Noah and she hadn't listened. Now Noah had tried to kiss her and had proved to be everything Enoch warned her of. But still he was being kind to her."I'm still angry with Noah and I promise I'll make him regret kissing you. For now I want you to get some sleep. You know Miss Peregrine likes waking us all up early and you'll be tired if you're awake for much longer. Do you want me to walk you back to your bedroom?" Enoch said.
Olive felt much better now and was quite capable of getting back alone, their rooms were only next door to each other, but Enoch's presence was calming so she obliged. He tucked her in and made sure she was comfortable before going back into his own room. He would make Noah pay tomorrow but at the moment he took his own advice and got some sleep.
