Songs of the chapter: Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd , Tell Me by Johnny Jewel ft Saoirse Ronan
"But if I miss and I become 'that guy'. You'll pay the consequences."
It started with that sentence. The sentence and the expectations that lead up to it is all what started the night that changed Reece forever.
Reece went inside the house that was invested with people his age grinding up against each other in some way. Whether it was because of the music or their hormonal teenage bodies just needed some attention. It was like they all had a competetion of who could be more attractive and more what most would call sexy. Reece just called it dirty dancing and he hadn't had the slightest clue how to do it.
His first thought once he entered the room was how could Kathy be in here. How could she? Was she already hooking up with someone? Could all the rumors that were going around the place was true and she herself got around?
No. She wasn't. Instead she was by the table with her friend and the boyfriend of her friend. The friend was making out with the boyfriend. They obviously were in the competition.
She was on her phone and then the hairs in the back of her neck went straight up. She felt a pit of her stomach churn in knots. That's when she looked up and saw him.
He was by the island getting a drink. His blonde hair was quiffed up. Some would think it probably took to much gel but Kathy admired it. She admired the iron pressed shirt he was wearing. It was summer yet the guy was wearing a long sleeved shirt. It was black and the jeans he was wearing made Kathy blush. They weren't tight though she did find herself looking at his bum. The way he moved with his hands along the tile counter and then to his glass. She admired him almost as much as he admired her.
But this night. Their night.
She got to admire him first. However she only got the chance for about a minute until he saw her too.
Her dress was light blue. Her hair-
Oh no she is looking his way. He ducked away from the counter and made his way to the other door which he didn't come in throough. The back door that lead the way to the beach.
Reece Collins didn't have game. That was for sure. All the girls at his school would call him at least cute. But he didn't think he was cute enough to be with Kathy Gabrel. A total almost godess.
Her beautiful hair. Her voice like an angel itself. It was undeniable that she was beautiful.
Reece went to a bench which was close to the bonfire. There was people around the bonfire already. He saw Blake and Blake waved. Reece waved back but that was all.It was like Blake didn't want to intervere with his night Ther night.
There was a senior classmen that had a guitar and he was playing the song. The song that Reece's ears in the future would hear every night. Reece recognized the song instantly and he got up. There were already people swaying so Reece did it too. And although he had a couple to many beers to actually be dancing like he was he did.
He almost tripped over the log bench but he got his footing enough to know he wasn't to tipsy. He danced like no one was watching. Swayed to the rhytmn of the song and he didn't realize he had an auidence of one. A girl he thought he was trying to hide away from.
He didn't know the stare until he opened his eyes. "You'll find a woman and you'll find love And don't forget that there is someone up above," he mumbled along and then stopped.
They make eye contact. And just like the first time he ever saw her Reece's eyes start to water and his throat becomes dry.
She makes the first step. The step that they both probably wished they hadn't after this night.
