Chapter Seven. A darker depth of a song
Three Months Later.
The sounds that you hear when you sit in complete darkness and you are by yourself might seem to loud. They might scream at you. Begging you to move though your body can't take it anymore. Your body can't rest until it has had enough and Reece Collins by this point was having enough.
He had enough of everyone's bullshit excuses to call him a liar and beyond what is worse even in his own mind.
Thoughts are left trapped up in his head. They can't see to escape and be outside of the forest that stays there.
The only escape he could ever have was football. Running on the field after he threw a twenty yard touchdown within a minute to spare which brings home a win, that's what makes him escape. Escape from the constant screams telling him he can't when in all and all he did. With teamates gathering around and sharing laughs and hugs for another claim of victory, Reece found happiness in that forest of elms.
Now he can't celebrate that win. Instead he sees it on the bench. Those elms grow wider and thicker as if his own thoughts have no echo.
However in those elms you can hear a faint lyric portraying: 'You'll find a woman, yea, you'll find love. And don't forget son, there is someone up above.'
Far across the distance Reece knew there was a point to escape. An escape that he himself couldn't ever fully do yet never understand either.
A week after the incident at the gym and Reece rejecting Kathy's apology for everything happening, he finally talked to someone about it. Though their response was far from being helpful.
How was he suppose to know what would happen. That the outcome of that one night could change his life. How was he suppose to know he lost everything, including his happiness in life and when it mattered the most. How was he suppose to know he would lose the happiness his sister gave him even after all of what happened.
His rages would get worse and worse until there was no use but to send him away.
Keith didn't know how to help Reece. He just became more and more quiet. He never wanted to leave his room and he always had his door locked. Not a peep would be heard from his son for days on end until he noticed that he wasn't going to school for almost two weeks. Two weeks wasn't a lot but when it came to not going to school for your second quarter it was enough.
After the eleventh day of not getting an answer from Reece. Him not sending any text messages or calls. No responding. He finally got the door unlocked and the bedroom revealed no one there. Not a soul was there and there was a note on Reece's desk that said 'To Dad' on the front.
Keith instantly began crying and he opened the letter. He thought the worse was happening and he went to his mothers again or something but it just read:
Dear Dad,
I know I have messed up. I have told you that many times. I have told that to many people for many times actually, Though no one hears me. No one hears the cries for help I long to speak out. Dad, I never want sympathy, I never want to disappoint you. And for right now I seem like I have gained all of the above.
I have decided to go. Go away somewhere and this is why. Let me tell you everything. This note has several notes and if you reach all of them you can do whatever you want to me. Punish me and ground me for life for fuck's sake. Do something. I am terrified over here and bawling my eyes out for nothing. Yeah nothing. Or is that what everyone thinks? That I have done everything and felt nothing against what happened?
I have seeked out help though that someone back stabbed me. That someone made me realize just one thing. That no matter how many times you replay thoughts in your head and replay memories , they never come back and you can never change them.
Though there is one thing you can replay over and over again then it changes you. It changes how you look at life.
Songs.
Beside my desk there is a CD. Play track one and it will reveal a song that descibes that circumstance with that person. After that go to Blake Johnson who I worked with at Macy's. He will tell you something you must know.
Keith gulped. One minute he was scared he lost his son or he was nervous he moved out. Though this is far worse. What was this? A game. A fucking game?
Should he fall for it and then see what the hell Reece is up to. Keith is a smart man. That's known by everyne wh knows him. Reece knows his father too and he knows somewhere deep down in the man's mind, Reece wasn't all to blame what happened that night.
Keith went to the desk and took the CD. He went instantly to his own room where he knows a CD player was at and he got his headphones where he kept them in his sock drawer. The nice ones which Lucy never knew where they were so she couldn't mess them up somehow.
He pushes play and Reece's voice fades into the ear phones. "Play one. Johnson looking out huthut. Oh wait. He misses and the quarter back is left looking puzzled, dazed, and embarrassed."
What the fuck," Keith whispers though now the song fades in and Keith tries to hold his breath in yet it goes out fast.
"Step one you say we need to talk. He walks. You say sit down it's just a talk."
As the song goes on Keith can feel his heart beating out of his chest and it doesn't stop until the song fades out and Reece's voice fades back in, "You see we can replay songs and see different interpretations. We can do this by ourselves yet when we hear a different person's perspective we want to go along with what they say. Dad. Hear Blake's side of the story I told him and then you will understand track two."
Keith's jaw clenchs and he zone's out until he hears a voice recollecting him back to reality.
"Daddy," Lucy says, "where is Reece?"
Keith looks at Reece's room from across the hall and then back at the CD player, "honey we need to pay a visit to one of his friends. reece is okay darling. He is just staying there I think."
Though in the deep dark alleyway of Keith's mind he knows Reece is just getting started and this little game he is playing will go to far this time.
THIS IS SO SHORT SORRY!!!
