We had been camped out in the apartments for at least what I think is a week. Daryl and I go out hunting every now and again and I think I’ve became friends with some of the people, although some of the people still irritate me. Especially Merle and Ed. Other than that, everything had been good. No walkers came close to the camp due to the 24-hour watch I set up. Although this wouldn’t last forever. Tonight Daryl and I brought back some squirrel and a small deer.

“We’re eatin good tonight,” Daryl said beaming at our catch.

I giggled and stopped when I heard footsteps that weren’t ours. I looked and Daryl stopped too. We hadn’t been attacked so close to camp before. Five walkers emerged from behind the trees. Growling and looking for their next meal. I slung my assault rifle around my shoulders and shot them in the head not wasting any time.

“They’ve never got this close before.”

“I don’t think we’ll last long here,” He replied rubbing his hand over his chin.

“Hmph.”

A blood-curdling scream echoed through the forest. That could only mean one thing. Walkers found the camp. Daryl and I sprinted to the camp dropping the game we found. I opened the back gate and saw everyone running around and others shooting walkers. Daryl shot a walker that noticed us, he stepped in front of me defending me. I pushed passed him.

“Daryl go!”

He hesitated, but he left my side and continued to kill more walkers. I couldn’t count the walkers because they moved around too much. I sighed and killed any walkers that got close. I looked for Glenn who was beating a walker with his bat. All I could hear was growling and screaming.

I looked over to Andrea and Amy. Amy tripped over a bag and the walkers got closer to her. Andrea dropped her weapon and shot the walkers with her gun.

The only thing was though; it didn’t have a silencer on it. Of course, that would only attract more walkers which is totally what we needed right now.

I climbed the stairs to get a vantage point shooting stray walkers. Once things calmed down I walked down the stairs and everyone gathered round.

“What the fuck was that?” I yelled at the group.

“The children were playing in the playground when a walker came in,” Carol explained.

I ran my hand through my hair and paced back and forth.

“How’d they get over the gate?” Daryl asked.

“They didn’t, they walked through. When I heard the kids screaming I ran over and saw there were walkers coming through,” Lori explained.

“How would they walk through unless someone opened the gate?” Amy asked.

“Doesn’t matter now this place is no longer safe,” I stated.

“So we’re just going to leave and go back to the woods?” Andrea questioned me.

“What do you want to do? Sit here and wait for more walkers to come waltzing through the perimeter? I don’t know if you realized this yet, but they’re drawn to noise, you just rang the dinner bell for them. Popping off rounds with your gun without a silencer on it! We need to leave, and now.”

“Agreed,” Shane said.

“For once, I agree with girlie,” Merle claimed.

“Who died and named you Queen Fucking Bee?” Ed spat

“If you want to live then I suggest you start packing your shit, or Queen Bee is leaving your ass for the walkers,” I spat and walked away to gather my stuff. I packed everything in my Escalade and went to siphon more gas from the cars that weren’t in use. I ran my hand threw my hair again.

“Hey Aaron!”

I turned to see Daryl walking towards me with his crossbow on his back.

“What is it?”

“Can I hitch a ride? Merle’s getting on my nerves,” He mumbled rubbing his forehead.

“Sure,” I sighed.

“Everything okay?”

“Ya know, I brought these people here to help them and myself to survive, but every time I make a decision or ask for something, my judgment is questioned. Why? Because I’m a kid? Or a girl? They don’t fucking doubt Shane when it comes to these things. I didn’t ask for this,” I said trialing off.

“Hey… Aaron look at me.”

I looked up to meet his eyes, they looked so… sincere. He placed a light hand on my shoulder

“Everyone is just on edge okay. It’s nothin’ against you. I’m actually thankful we found ya. You’re the best thing that happened to us during this shit storm. Don’t beat yourself up over this alright?”

I nodded and Daryl pulled me into a hug. His body tensed when our skin touched and I hugged back trying to relax him. He did but only a small bit before he pulled away.

“Get your shit ready girlie, we’re leaving soon,” He said as a smirk spread across his face.

He walked away and I continued to collect the gas. Once I was done, I walked back to see everyone just about ready to go. I put the gas in the car and hopped in the drivers’ seat. Daryl sat shotgun and Glenn, and T-Dog rode in the back.

“If you guys want to get some rest, someone can sleep in the back and the other can lay across the seat,” I mentioned.

“Call dibs on the back,” T-Dog said quickly before jumping over the seat.

I grinned and felt a burning feeling on the side of my face. I looked over to Daryl who was staring intently at me.

“What?”

His gaze fell back on to the road and he shook his head.

“Nuffin.”

I shrugged it off and continued driving.
