Before we left the complex, I stopped a couple of yards away from the main rode. I needed to make a clearing before the cars could push through. The walkers were lining the exit. I pulled Essie to a stop; Glenn hopped into the drivers' seat and waited for me to signal. I hid behind the sign and counted how many walker I needed to take out. I had to be fearless at this point. There was no turning back.

As close as I was the geeks would definitely hear me, even with the silencer on my gun. I slung it over my shoulder and pulled my knife out. I waited for a walker to be secluded. I checked my back and walked behind the walker and shoving my knife through its skull. It dropped with a thud and I smashed my combat boot into his face. The others heard and started growling at me. I backed away and sheathed my knife quickly before slinging my gun in front of me. I held my breath and counted to slowly to 10. Each number a walker dropped. I backed away more. Hoping to lead them away from the entrance. One got a little too close for comfort. I hit him in the head with the butt of my gun before shooting the other four. Once they dropped, I took a step back to take a breath. Fuck. Walkers are hard to take down when they're close up. I started walking and whistled for Glenn. He drove up slowly.
I heard a growl below me and one of the walkers wasn't dead. It grabbed my ankle, making me lose my balance. Growling and biting at me. I grunted as tried to pull away from it. I couldn't shake it off. It's teeth started for my ankle. Ready to bite at any moment.
Before the walker made me it's breakfast, an arrow flew through its head. I sighed, and shook its hands off of my leg. I looked to see Daryl standing there with his crossbow pointed at the ground below me.
I ran over to him and hugged him, sighing as I did. His body tensed immediately and I pulled away quickly whipping the stray tear from my eye.
"Don't go gettin' soft on me now kid," Daryl said quietly.
I took a shaky breath.
"I'm sorry. I-I-I've never been that close to being eaten before," I whispered running a shaky hand through my hair.
"Really?" He seemed confused.
"Y-yeah. I've been held up in my apartment for weeks and barely started venturing out," I tried to swallow the dryness in my throat
Daryl put a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it.
"Don't worry kid, I won't let anything happen to ya."
I nodded, "Thanks."
"You okay Aaron?" Glenn asked as he drove up and I walked to the car. Daryl walked over to the walker, pulled his bolt out, and whipped it on its shirt.
"Yeah, fine," I mumbled hopping into the drivers' seat and pulling away.

When we got to the store and cleared out the walkers in the front. Daryl stayed by my side through the clearing. I walked to the door of the store and looked inside, seeing it empty.
"You wanna tell me why you have a guitar on your back?" Andrea questioned looking through the door as well.
"Just watch," I said walking through the door.
I looked around to check for geeks. I pulled the guitar from my shoulder and held it in playing position. I played a Mary Had A Little Lamb. Waiting for a few seconds.
"What is that-"
I shushed Jaqui and waited a few more seconds. Around the corner, three growling geeks popped out and sprinted at us. I stepped forward with my gun in hand. A hand was placed on my shoulder pulling me back slightly. I looked at Daryl and he shook his head. He aimed the bow at the one of the walkers and it dropped immediately. He took the other down with his hunting knife while Glenn went to the other one. He retrieved his arrow, then nodded at us. I let out the breath I was holding.
"Okay Jaqui and Morales gather as much Medical supplies as you can, Glenn and Andrea get food and water, lots of it. Daryl and I will go to the weaponry. Meet back here in 20, Got it?"
A choir of agreements filled the room and we all headed off to get what we needed.
Daryl and I stalked off to the gun section of the store, I held my gun down scanning the front while Daryl covered my back.
"Where did ya learn to shoot and take down walkers like that?" he whispered
"If I wasn't studying for college I spent my time, uh, playing video games."
He scoffed quietly.
"Never known a girl to be such a good shot."
I grinned, "Well, you pick up a thing or two, all those horror movies I used to watch, not to mention my brother was in the military, so he taught me some things about guns and hunting," I trailed off.
"Would it hurt to ask what happened to 'em?"
"Uhh came home from school the day shit hit the fan. Found my mom tearing him a part."
"Sorry to hear," He spoke as we reached the hunting gear and artillery.
"No worries, shit happens."
I looked around and found some ammo, stuffing as much of it in my duffle bag that would fit. I looked at Daryl who was grabbing some random hunting gear. There was a hunting knife kit on the wall and before stuffing it in my bag I replaced the flimsy knife I had. I picked up some towels, flashlights, matches, and other things before turning back to Daryl. He was looking at the crossbows and arrows. He picked up a bunch of things I didn't recognize and we headed back to the entrance. Glenn and Andrea found some gallons of water. Everyone helped load them into the car. Being on high alert for walkers, we headed back to camp.
