Broken Life // Grayson Dolan 1

Mrs Dolan was thinking about what I had just said. She nodded at me and I knew there was no hope in arguing. I got up and Ethan drove me back to my house. We arrived there and Roger and Grayson was waiting there at the front door. Me and Ethan climbed the two flight of steps to the front door and went inside. My dad was there and so was Freya, in the sitting room. I sat down opposite them and Roger, Ethan and Grayson followed.

Charlie:" Katie before you have ago. Forget about last night. I was drunk and I did let stuff slip that I shouldn't of said. I'm sorry."

Katie:" I'm here for Freya. Not you."

Freya was quite shy when we walked in. Of course she was. She had never seen us before.

Katie:" Hiya Freya. I am your new big sister." 

I held out my hand to shake hers. She shock it and stepped back a little.

Freya:" Hello."

Katie:" It's okay. I'm Katie. This is Ethan and Grayson my friends and this is Roger. He is really sweet. He loves us all. But he is good at protecting if you want it."

Freya:" I don't need protection. I am a big girl."

Katie:" Of course you are. Probably bigger than me. But everyone needs protecting once in a while."

Charlie:" If this is about last night then just drop it. You are just causing more grief. I said sorry. What else do you want?"

Katie:" To have Mom and Lewis back. But that isn't going to happen so nothing from you thanks. Roger take Freya to my room please."

Roger took hold of Freya's hand and left. Ethan and Grayson followed after them.

Charlie:" Katie you need to grow up. What is going on?"

Katie:" I am going to ask you a serious question. Answer it truthfully."

Charlie:" Well get on with it."

Katie:" Did you truly love mom?"

Charlie:" What? Of course I did. Why would I stay with her if I didn't?"

Katie:" Is that why you felt like cheating twice was okay?"

My dad's expression on his face turned from annoyed to shock and guilt. I knew all of his looks cos he is rubbish at holding his emotions back.

Charlie:" Wha-? Where did you hear that?"

Katie:" A letter mom wrote me. I read it last night when we had the argument. Lewis caught you first then she caught you. Funny that something happens when they find out. A week later they die. Of apparent what was it? Oh yeah an a car explosion."

Charlie:" Look Missy. If you are tryna say that I killed your brother and mother then you are mental. Your mom was starting to lose feelings that why she wrote that. I caught her cheating so I did the same to her to see how she felt. "

Katie:" What about Lewis?"

Charlie:" He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't know. I miss them too you know. Don't think  that I don't miss our family days out to the beach or the park."

Katie:" One was your son. One was your wife. And for some reason, I don't believe you. I can't stand you. Yes I think you killed mom and Lewis. And now you are going to kill me cos I have caught on. You thought you could hide it from me forever. Turn me into this person that would choose her dad over everyone. I wish I could but nah. "

Roger came into the room before my dad had a chance to answer. 

Roger:" Sorry I should have knocked. But Charlie, should I order dinner in?"

Charlie:" He told you. Didn't he? About where I apparently stole his idea to impress your mom. That I was the one that killed your brother and mother. That I slept around all the time or whatever."

Roger:" Excuse me Charlie. For a moment are you tryna blame me for ruining your daughters mind?"

Charlie:" Yeah I am."

My dad had shot up in anger. I did the same and darted towards  Roger.

Katie:" I'm sorry Charlie but I will figure who killed my mom and brother. And you're my suspect."

Me and Roger left the room. We ushered me outside and down to the pool area.

Katie:" What?"

Roger:" I told you to at least wait. I thought you were gonna talk about last night about dinner. Not went on in your bedroom."

Katie:" Roger you should know best when I have something to say I will say it. No matter what anyone says. You are my second dad and soon to be the only dad that I have and want. If you wanna drop out be my guest. But I won't stop till I  have justice of my mom and Lewis."

Before Roger could answer back, we heard a person wailing in pain. It was coming from the house. We rushed back up the stairs and into the kitchen where it was coming from. Sean was on the floor with a knife wound in his upper left arm. I bent down quickly tied a tea towel round the wound to keep the blood in. Roger helped get him up. Roger had took Mr Dolan to the counter to sit down, so I took a chance and dashed. 

I was creeping round the first floor. I saw a knife laying on the floor so I picked it up. I heard footsteps above me so I ran as quietly as I could. I checked the  whole second floor but I didn't find anyone. I moved on up to the third floor. I was slowly edging around and I heard foot steps in a spare bedroom. I stood outside the door holding the knife up and waiting for the right time. 

I kicked the door open. My dad was there. He was tied to a chair with a gag in his mouth. He was shaking his head and tryna tell me something. I ran to him and tried cutting the rope. The door slammed shut and there stood a tall dark figure.

Katie:" You?"
