Nine years later...
Sitting in my family room with my two best friends, who just so happened to also be my coworkers as we discussed tomorrows lessons. You see a lot has changed since the last time we talked. For starters it's been nine years since we last talked, which means I'm nine years older. Okay okay I'm twenty nine years old, there you got me to say it! I finally graduated college and I'm finally starting my career, that's right ya girl is now the head teacher at Linemell city preschool, Linemell city preschool is the most prestigious preschool this city has, tons of families fighting every year to get their little buddles of joy's into this preschool, nah I'm just joking, this preschool is the school that they toss all the colored kids into. I know you're wondering this and yes, I still live with mama. A mortgage aint cheap ya know.
"Did you see that new chemical plant that was built across the street from our job?" Yasmin asked.
Yasmin is one of my best friends and probably the sweetest person I have ever met. I just love her big almond shaped hazel eyes, framed by her full lashes and thick eye brows, that goes well with her thick black hair not that I ever see it, it's often hidden by her black hijab.
Rolling my eyes in annoyance I replied. "Yeah, which means we're not going to be able to let the children go out side all that much, that stuff is terrible to breathe in."
Squinting her eyes Giselle asked. "Who builds a chemical plant directly in front of a preschool anyways?"
Giselle is my other best friend, we met our last year in college. There's something about Giselle personality that just clicked with me. Some would say it was her sometimes feisty personality that went well with my sometimes-meek personality, we level each other out.
"Someone who doesn't care." I mumbled.
Walking into the family room with a plate of cookies Mama says. "I'm sorry for interrupting, I know you're busy, do you think you could bring these cookies down to the new neighbors?"
Looking over to Yasmin and Giselle who both nodded their heads I replied. "Sure."
Getting up I grabbed the plate out of mama's hand. Shuffling passed her I walked out of the front door and down the street. Someone was finally moving into Noah's old house, could you believe after all those years no one moved in.
Lifting my fist to knock on the door, the door swiftly opened even before my fist landed. There stood a man, he looked like some kind of Italian prince or something with his light brown skin that went well with his green eyes and brown hair, I was never too fond of mustaches and beards but my gosh did it work on him! There was something oddly familiar about him, but I couldn't put my thumb on it.
"Can I help you?" The voice says.
"Umm, ummm." I stuttered.
Elbowing me in the side Giselle says. "He asked you a question!"
Shaking my head as I tucked my hair behind my ear I replied. "Uhh- my mom made these for you to welcome you to the neighborhood."
Keeping eye contact with me almost like he was trying to figure something out the beautiful man before us reached out and grabbed the plate.
Nervously fidgeting I said. "Well we should be going."
Watching me and my two friends walk away the guy says. "Thanks for the cookies!"
Turning around swiftly on the balls of my feet I replied. "No problem, my mom likes to make things for all our new neighbors."
"Sorry, I didn't catch your name."
Pushing the loose curls behind my ears I said. "Scarlett- Scarlett Elizabeth Prince."
Rubbing his beard, the guy replies. "That's such a beautiful name."
But before I could even open my mouth to respond, a thin blonde woman with blue eyes walked up next to him, she looked oddly familiar but again I couldn't put my thumb on where I knew her from, well at least not until I heard her speak.
Pecking him on the lip's the woman asked. "Who's this babe?"
Of course, he's married something that beautiful couldn't be single.
"Uhh, just our neighbors, she came to welcome us to the neighborhood."
"Oh, well, don't forget we have to be somewhere in five minutes."
"I won't."
"I'm going to go get my purse and then I'll be ready."
"Alright, babe see you when you get back." Hearing those words made me remember that I was all alone, that the love of my life had left me, without even saying a word.
As I turned to walk away that's when I heard it, that's when I realized where I knew him from.
"Oh, and Noah?"
With my back turned to the two my mouth dropped, it was him, it was Noah, didn't he recognize me- not that it matters he clearly moved on while I spent the past nine years mourning over a relationship that never was.
"Yes, Sarah." Noah replied.
"Open the car for the kids, I want to jump in the car and go."
"Of course, honey."
A bunch of kids ran out of the house, okay not a bunch just two, a child that looked eight and one that looked five.
It took a good solid five minute and two kids pushing pass me from different directions for me to snap out of my train of thought. But as I finally snapped out of it and before I turned to walk away I heard Noah pick up his phone, he was pretty annoyed.
"I am mom." Noah says.
"I'm doing exactly what you told me too!"
"I won't." And after listening to too much I turned and walked off Giselle and Yasmin followed close by chatting it up about Noah, but I didn't say a word, how could he fall in love with another woman, how could he just forget about me, when I could never forget about him.
"What's wrong Chica?" Giselle asked.
"That was him." I said with my arms folded.
"Run that pass me again?" Giselle said
With her mouth agape Yasmin replied.
"You mean that's him?!"
"WHO?!" Giselle asked.
"Noah- my Noah!"
"Damn, you were right he looked good!" Giselle replied.
Letting out a deep breath I replied.
"He moved on!"'
"I never meant anything to him."
