Walking into the bakery shop I couldn't help but think about the actions of my stupid friends. I mean yeah Sarah's fine, as far as her being alive, but there's a version of this that plays in my head where Sarah dies, and I'm trying to convince the police and eventually twelve jurors that I knew nothing about the actions of my friends nor did I put them up to it. It would be a hard argument being that both Sarah and I have a long history, not only that but we're both in love with Noah.
Looking up at the door as it opened Noah gets a huge smile on his face when he says."Scarlett you're here!"
Flashing him a welcoming smile, I walk over to him in silence. Taking a seat across from him I made myself comfortable.
"So, what have you tasted so far?"
Sending me a closed smile Noah replied."Nothing, I wanted to wait for you."
"Cool, I want to try vanilla." I said.
Noah gets a sour look on his face one that read total disgust."What- you don't like vanilla?"
Shaking his head, no as he stares me in the eyes Noah says."I've never been fan of vanilla, I'm more of a chocolate guy, it's richer in taste."
"I bet." I said sending him a closed smile as I lifted one of my eye brow.
"So, we're going to go with Chocolate?" I questioned.
Shaking his head Noah says."No- we can taste both, I get Chocolate and you get Vanilla."
"Ma'am?" Noah called as he rose his hand.
Running up to us the lady behind the counter asked."Are you ready to pick?"
"Uhh- yes, we just want to start with a slice of Vanilla and a slice of Chocolate."
"Okay- one Chocolate and one Vanilla coming right up."
Watching the lady run off on her toe dragging her feet, I quickly become annoyed. The sound of her shoes made scrapping sounds against the floor that echoed off the walls made worst by the fact that she was wearing tap shoes, you know the ones with the metal on the heel and the toe of the feet.
Watching me watch the baker Noah asked."What?"
"The sound of her shoes scraping against the floor." I replied cringing to the sound of her feet dragging against the hard wood floor.
You would think the sound of her feet scraping against the floor would disappear once she entered the kitchen, but no, you could still hear her running around, the sound still echoing off the wall I instantly close my eyes I so badly wanted to tell her that there was no need to run, but I didn't want to mess anything up for Noah, not to mention this is the only bakery in Linemell that doesn't see me or any other people of color as domesticated animal, which is probably why Noah chose it so I stayed quiet.
"Breathe." Noah whispers.
Out of nowhere the baker appeared next to us placing the cakes between us."Here's your two slices of cakes."Turning around the lady ran off exactly like she did earlier sliding her feet scraping against the floor.
"Where are the forks?" I asked.
Shrugging Noah says."Maybe she forgot...." Turning around to call the lady back Noah continued with. "I can ask her."
Watching Noah quickly raise his hand I had to stop him, I couldn't stand the thought of hearing the metal on the front of her feet scrape across the floor putting my hand on his, I quickly pull his hand down.
"Noah- no, If I hear her feet scraping against the floor again I'm going to scream!"
Sending me a closed smile Noah asked."And we wouldn't want that, now would we?"
