                                              Chapter 5

"Des. It's time to get up." Someone yelled loudly in my ear.

"Screw off before I make you." Trish's high pitch laugh sounded through the room.

"Come on I have pancakes." She said. The thought of food would usually get me up but I had a long day yesterday.

"I am going to stab you in the jugular with a fresh orange peel!" No one spoke again so I started to drift off to sleep again.

"Fine I'll just eat all the food myself!" Trish slammed the door and stomped down the hall.  I shot out of bed and down the hall into the kitchen

"Where's the food? I swear if you ate it all-" I threatened glaring up at her.

"Please don't kill me." She smiled sheepishly as she pushed a plate of pancakes in my face. When I got to seconds I noticed Trish get up to get dressed for school. I slammed my face down into my pancakes. Why? Why did today have to be Monday? I hate Mondays. I threw my plate into the sink and went to the bathroom to get the syrup off my forehead. I didn't have time for a shower so my hair ended up in a messy bun. I put on a pair of ripped jeans and a white vee neck t-shirt. I was still ready before Trish....Shocker.

"Trish I am not gonna be late again!" Every day late week we'd been late. Trish stumbled out of her bedroom pulling her flats on. We decided to walk to school considering we actually had enough time and didn't have to rush.

"So, what’s going on with you and Tristan?" I smirked nudging her. A bright pink blush rushed across her cheeks and she quickly averted her gaze.

"Nothing." She tried to deny. I gave her my best 'Are you kidding?' look but dropped it anyway. We chatted easily about hobbies and sports until we reached the school building.

"It must be the apocalypse because Ms. Sage and Ms. Kurtus are actually on time!" Mr. Watts exclaimed. I must admit he's the best teacher I've ever had. A few students let out small laughs until Mr. Watts told everyone to sit in their seats.

"Today we’ll be learning about keeping a safe distance from your assigned person or persons. Now the key is not to be noticed." Mr. Watts droned. I picked up my pen and started to take notes. “We’ll also be having a guest speaker today. A guardian has volunteered to come in and help you guys out with the new techniques you guys have learned. So I'll know if you haven't been paying attention."

Trish dropped her head on to her desk. "I'm so screwed." She mumbled.

"That's what you get for doodling hearts in your notebook." I teased.

"I am not!" She yelled.

"Am I interrupting something?" Mr. Watts questioned. Trish blushed and mumbled a no before shooting me a glare. I put my hands up in mock defeat and slightly laughed. The door opened and Luca stepped in.

"Ah I see our volunteer has arrived!" Mr. Watts exclaimed. "We I'll leave the class to you. Have fun!" He sounded way too happy to be getting rid of us. I can imagine you don't get a lot of vacation time here. Mr. Watts quickly exited the class room with the biggest grin across his face.

"Hello, I'll be your teacher for the day. My name Is Luca Bartilona, but you can call me Mr. B or Luca." He girl in front of me, Jessica, I think sighed and put her cheek in her hand. Luca has no clue what he's gotten himself into. I mentally laughed to myself at the thought of Luca being followed around by a bunch of lost looking girls.

"Does anyone know why we can't interfere in any mortal’s life?" Luca questioned. All the girls’ hands shot up into the air and I rolled my eyes along with the boys. He pointed to Jessica, who grinned as if she just won the Loughery.

"Because if we interfere we could ultimately change their destiny and alter the future." Jessica smiled a sticky sweet smile at him. His grimaced but quickly smiled back.

"That's correct Ms. Evers. Now does anyone know what a safe distance is to watch your mortal?" Everyone raised their hand again. If only Mr. Watts could see us now.

"Destiny? Do you know?" He asked.

"No."

"No? Why?" He looked shocked.

"No, because there is no set distance. You have to stay as far away as it takes. It can vary from 10 feet away to a mile away. It depends on the human and how attuned their senses are. If someone close to them just died or they have faced a traumatic issue in their lives the connection is strong and you have to stay farther away, but if the person lives a comfy life and has no worries it's easy to stay closer to them."

Trish stared at me in shock. What? Just because I don't raise my hand doesn't mean I'm stupid. I shrugged like it was nothing.

"That's exactly right!" Luca said in amazement. A light blush spread across my face. Luca cleared is throat

"Okay lets move on to Blending in. If you continue on the straight and narrow path you'll get your wings after graduation. When you go back to Earth you'll need to disguise them." He pulled his jacket off and then his shirt. Oh holy crap. To say he was smoking was an understatement. I ran my eyes over his well-defined abs. I quickly ripped my eyes away from him and looked down at my books.

There was no way I'd be caught staring at him again. Against my better judgment I looked up again to see him extending the same beautiful light brown wings I'd seen when I died. I couldn't wait to get mine. The wings flapped once sending a strong gust of wind throughout the room.

"They may look beautiful but they hurt like a bitch when you first get them. When you go down to earth they fold right into the skin on your back. The first few times you do it your balance will be off because the wings are actually quiet heavy."

Luca turned his back to us and began to fold them back in. As soon as the wings folded his skin mended and sealed over the wings. It was amazing yet disgusting to watch. As soon as Luca pulled his shirt back over his head the classroom door slammed open. I didn't bother to look. I figured it was the guy that sits next to Katie, but as soon as I looked at Luca's face I knew. Only one person had ever made Luca's face contort in rage. I turned around in my seat to face the door.

Jonathan stood there with his trademark smirk plastered on his face.

"Sorry I'm late." He grinned as he took the last vacant seat next to me.

"Did ya miss me?" For the second time I wanted to slap that silly smirk of his handsome face.
