Kitchen is currently Joohyun's favorite place. Because when it's cold everywhere, kitchen is the only warm place in her house. Also, because she can make gingerbread cookies for her beloved boyfriend.
The smell of ginger fills her nostril. She smiles proudly, looking at the tray of cookies she just made. A little bit of decorating, and it's done. Her mind is too occupied with her cookies, she doesn't hear the door cracks open.
"Joohyun?"
Taehyung, whose head is covered with snow, peeks inside the house. As soon as the pleasant smell hits his olfactory nerve, he skips to the kitchen with the biggest grin, forgetting the snow that's falling down his head straight to the floor.
"Gingerbread, gingerbread, gingerbread man!" He singsongs, causing his girlfriend to jump out of surprise. Lucky, no cookies were harmed in this scene. They both giggle.
"Welcome. I didn't hear you. Did you get the peach cola?"
"Yes ma'am, I did," Taehyung pulls two bottles of peach cola from his jacket and puts them on the table, "I wanted to buy us a bottle of wine but you wanted cola instead."
"Maybe next time. It's been a long time since I had that peach cola, and I saw a picture of Seulgi holding it yesterday."
"Ah, yes. Jimin and Seulgi are in Japan for Christmas holiday. Waiting for them to come back and bring sweets for souvenirs would be too long, right?"
Joohyun laughs. "That's right, let them enjoy their honeymoon. Now, why don't you take a warm bath while I'm preparing the table?"
"Don't you need help?"
Joohyun takes a glance to the front door. "I'm gonna need help, but not in the kitchen."
Taehyung smiles sheepishly, knowing that Joohyun wants him to clean up the puddle of melted snow he left on the floor earlier. "Be right back!" He disappears to get the mop and making sure that no drop left that can cause Joohyun to slip.
Half an hour later, Taehyung reappears in the kitchen with damp hair, light brown sweater, green flannel pants, and red slippers with a Rudolph patch on it. He watches Joohyun who's busy arranging the table with bulgogi, cheese kimbab, honey garlic wings, alfalfa salad topped with various berries, gingerbread cookies, and of course peach cola that Joohyun requested. Now that he watches carefully, he realizes how beautiful his girlfriend is in black turtleneck, red checkered skirt, and white apron. There's something different about her that he can't point out.
His train of thought is gone with the sound of her hearty laugh. "Oh my, those slippers."
"What? It's Christmas so it's finally time for Rudolph to get the spotlight." He hugs her petite body from the back and gives her cheek a little peck.
"Okay, okay. Rudolph, it's your time to shine." She fans her face with her hand. "I really didn't think you would wear those slippers I bought you."
"Of course I would. It's from you. You chose them from me, it means they made you think of me."
Joohyun spins around to face her boyfriend. "Everything I do reminds me of you." Just before his lips can touch hers, she playfully pushes him aside. "Take a seat and let's eat." Joohyun continues laughing when Taehyung whines about not getting a kiss from her. "Later." She winks.
After praying hand in hand, expressing gratitude and asking for blessings, they finally start eating. As expected, Joohyun's cooking is the best. Her cooking and her warm hugs are some of many reasons why Taehyung always leaves office party early. Why would you drink soju with middle aged men when you could be wrapped in your lover's arms, drinking hot chocolate while listening to her talking about her day? In no time, the foods are gone. Taehyung offers to help washing the dishes while Joohyun lights up the fireplace.
