The Light of Heaven

Chapter 6

Jace was having a rough day before he had even called Clary from Edinburgh. He woke up in the morning feeling tired, he hadn;t been able to sleep since he kept on thinking about Clary. He was expected to be at the council at 9. He took a long shower and got dressed. He hoped that he wouldn't have to stay for more than a week. As he walked he thought about Clary and how she was doing, he nearly turned up late but he bumped into Alec and they ran. Jia Penhallow was still the consul and she was doing a pretty good job.

"Welcome everyone", she said and gestured to their seats. "The angels have sent a distress call and told us that when the angels where pushed out of heaven they never reached a demon dimension. They cannot be tracked since they are no shadowhunters, but we are expected to find them and help them to get back to their demon dimension". Somebody asked: "How long ha his been going on for?" Jia said: "A month". 

Everyone started murmuring quietly. Alec asked Jace, " How is Clary doing?". Jace answered: " Not well". "Her mother?" Alec asked. Jace nodded. He didn't want to talk about it. He longed to be back with Imogen and Shawn. Jia started talking again but Jace didn't pay attention. After a while people started whispering agin. Jia let them and turned away to talk to someone Jace didn't recognize. Jia coughed, all eyes turned to her. "You have all been assigned a place to look and what to do when you find an angel. You will be expected tomorrow at 9 to receive them"." Thank you that is all". Everyone got up and left. Jace decided to go to Lyn Lake. He said bye to Alec. On the way Jace thought about the council meeting. He hadn't;t really concentrated there and he had almost forgotten what was wrong. 

He was wondering who the man was that Jia had been talking to when someone came up behind me. It was the same man that Jia had been talking to. Now only did Jace recognize him. It was brother Zachariah, now only Zachariah. Jace muttered a hi and continued walking. Zachariah ran up to him and said:" My real name is James Carstairs. Jace turned aroundin shock, "Carstairs?". Zachariah nodded. " Please call me Jem, I wanted to talk to you about Clary". Jace looked at him said: " Everything is fine with Clary".  Jem said: "I heard that you have gotten a daughter". "And a son" Jace added. "Congratulations" , Jem said. 

Jace turned to walk away but Jem followed him. After a few minutes Jace turned around and said " hat do you want?". Jem laughed and said sadly" You look so much like Will". "Was he your parabatai?". Jem nodded. Jace continued walking. Jem said: " I wanted to tell you that Clary will get over it. Tessa says that she just needs some more time and that Angel business. Don't worry about it. The clave will solve it. You don't need to do evrything". Jace nodded and was about to say thanks but Jem was already gone. 

Jace kicked angrily at a stone. He felt so hopeless and he wanted to help Clary but he didn't know how. He decided to go back and call her. 

Clary heard the phone ring first. Her heart speed up. Jace, she thought. Sophie answered the call and after a while she beckoned Clary and gave Clary the phone. "Hello", Clary said breathlessly. "Hi", Jace answered. " I hope that I will be back tomorrow but otherwise it will be the day after." Jace said. "Great", Clary said. They talked a bit about what happened at the meeting and then Jace said " Clary it is not your fault.". Clary didn't want to talk about it so she just said " I know". Jace knew that she was lying but he felt so hopeless that he couldn't drop the subject. " Tessa said you need more time, but I am here Clary. I am here to help you. So please let me" Jace heard Clary start to sob and after a second he heard Imogen's voice "Mommy is gone, Daddy what did you do to make her upset". Imogen sounded angry but there was no way that she could have figured out anything so Jace said " Mommy is not upset". Imogen replied " Yes, she is. She is crying the whole day long and doesn't listen to what I say. Daddy what did you do?!". Imogen slammed the phone down and Jace lost the connection. 

Jace sighed and sat down on the ground and put his hands in his lap and cried.
