"You can't be serious!" Alex booms so loud that the room almost shakes.
"He won't talk if anyone else is there. It needs to be just me." I answer softly as I stand before Alex.
My arms are wrapped around myself as I watch Alex pace the large space in front of the fireplace in the room he once called home. After the fighting stopped, Cail was taken and locked in his own dungeon while his followers were given a choice. Follow a new leader or die with their old one.
Most chose to accept that Cail had lost but there were a few that couldn't. They were taken and placed in their own section of the dungeon, far from Cail.
Since then, the entire Castle was searched top to bottom to find Logan and his child but no trace was found. They are definitely not here.
So many different people have tried to get their location but Cail is the only one privy to that information. First Gable and Luther tried to play good cop/bad cop but he didn't even acknowledge their presence.
Then a distraught Imani let out her frustration at the loss of Tariq on Cail but he barely flinched with each punch.
Alex and I went next but Cail refused to even look at his brother and instead focused only on me. After what seemed like hours, Cail finally admitted that he would only talk to me if I was alone.
So now here I stand, trying to convince the man I intend to spend forever with to let me speak to this dangerous foe all alone.
"I can't believe you are even considering this after what he did." Alex runs his fingers through his hair as he speaks trying to calm himself down.
"You heard his conditions. He will tell me everything if it is me and him alone in his library." I replay the instructions given to us.
"I'm surprised he didn't say his bedroom," Alex mutters under his breath and I fight the urge to agree. I'm surprised too.
"We need to find out where Logan is and we are running out of time. We don't have another option." I step closer to Alex and he finally stops pacing to look at me dead on.
"What if he tries to mind control you again? I can't stop him if I'm not there." His fear is real and it is a shared one.
I try not to even think about what could happen if Cail does mind control me and instead focus on saving the only family I have left.
"I need to find them, Alex. Logan and his baby don't deserve what I've put them through. I need to save them and make things right."
Alex wraps his arms around me at that moment and pulls me into him, planting a kiss on top of my skull. I, in turn, kiss his chest through his shirt.
He lets out a loud exhale and I know instantly that the fight is over.
"Ok. But I am going to be standing right outside the entire time. If he so much as looks at you strange, I am coming in."
.....
I enter the library and find it the same as the last time I was here. Still human and being brought to Cail in chains. Now it is Cail who enters in chains of silver. Funny how things have changed.
I move to the two-seater love seat that sits opposite two single seater chairs and makes myself comfortable in the centre. Cail takes the hint and moves to the single lounge across from me and does the same.
The seats are a deep brown leather with gold buttons and in between us stands a large mahogany coffee table. Two glasses of blood stand alone on the table and I usher Cail to drink his.
