Alex's POV

"Alex, you need to see this," Gable calls out to me from the next room.

I am standing in the kitchen fetching myself a drink and am quick to make my way over to him.

Gable is still sitting on the couch with his computer on his lap just like he has been for the last few hours. Imani has been sending Gable non-stop updates and video feeds of any and all places she thinks could be potential weapon testing sites the humans could be using. So far we have confirmed three for certain. Chernobyl, Hiroshima and somewhere in remote Mongolia.

"The weapons they seem to be testing in Japan are similar to the ones used when you entered the zone, right?" Gable asks as I near him.

I look onto the screen and see a blurry video of a man shooting glistening bullets at a darkened target. It's hard to make out the full extent of what I am seeing and I really have to focus on the picture.

"Can you make it any less blurry?" I ask simply.

"Hang on, ill give it a try."

Gable then begins frantically batting at keys until the picture quality gets a little clearer. Not perfect but somewhat better.

"That's about the best I can do. This video is taken from drones that are filming a kilometre away so not to be detected." He explains and I raise my brow.

"I didn't know we had such technology available to us."

"When you took over Cail's position you took over all of his assets. Among such is a vast variety of military grade tech and weaponry. Needless to say that Viktor and Imani are having a blast playing with the new toys."

I chuckle softly but dismiss it quickly and return to the task at hand. Trying to identify what's on the screen.

A figure on screen is playing with a weapon, shooting it towards a wall. Each bullet that flies from the barrel is clearly silver as it shines in the moonlight and expels its own radiance.

It doesn't seem that this person is shooting at anything in particular until a group of three people enter onto the screen and move toward the wall just as the first man stops shooting.

I squint my eyes hoping to enhance my vision and watch as two of the people move away from the wall leaving one still standing there.

"What are they doing?" I ask not expecting a direct answer.

Suddenly the first person raises the gun once more and begins to shoot toward the person standing by the wall. The bullets pierce through the air and cause the figure to fall to the ground.

"Was that..." Gable begins wanting me to finish, so I oblige.

"A live target. They are testing these weapons on living vampires." I say, seething.

"Fuck. How many vampires have died for target practice?" Gable asks, his tone showcasing how appalled he truly is.

"Who knows. Thousands probably."

I think of all the vampires that have probably gone missing over the years and found themselves at the mercy of scientists.

"We need to put an end to this Alex. We can't let this continue any longer. Who knows how many captive vampires are trapped in each facility and Imani said she may have found 3 more just like this one."

I close my eyes and run my hands through my thick hair. This is beyond what I expected to find.

I always had an inkling that Cail had a deal with the humans but I never had any real reason to pursue my theory. We always seemed to have the upper hand so why bother. But it seems the reality is that while we were busy snatching up any human that stepped foot outside their zone the humans were busy creating weapons and using captive vampires as lab rats.

How much Cail knew of this is uncertain but I do believe he knew something. He always hinted that he had a snitch inside the zone and that they had a shared agreement. Maybe this was it. Maybe he knew about this all along.

I hope to God that I am wrong.

"Call Imani and tell her she has 12 hours to find anymore testing sites and then she needs to start rounding up several small teams."

I bark my orders as I pace the length of the loft. Gable watches me intently and reaches for his phone before stopping with a question in his eyes.

"What are we going to do next?"

I smile malevolently to my closet friend.

"What we do best. Kill humans."
