The frigid water encases me as I struggle to make sense of which way is up.

Light is bouncing from every inch of ice that blocks my path to freedom and my path to Annerly. But I don't see where I fell in from.

I need to get out of this water before I freeze to death. Surely as a vampire I can still succumb to extreme temperatures. I have no idea but i don't want to find out the hard way.

I begin frantically trying to find my way out when I feel Sabina's boney fingers wrap around my ankle.

I try to kick her away and free myself but she just digs her nails in harder until she is holding both of my legs at the knees.

She then begins to claw her way up my body as she tries to hold me to her. I am trying my best to swim up and away from her but she wraps herself around me and tries to drag me down.

She isn't trying to save herself anymore. She is trying to take me down with her. She knows that she  has no chance of making me side with her so she wants me dead. But the worst part is that she is willing to kill herself in the process.

Sabina is on a Kamikaze mission.

I try to kick desperately away from her but feel my body begin to sink deeper into the freezing water.

I manage to grasp hold of her shoulders and try with all my might to push her down and away from me but it is near impossible. She is holding on so tight and I am struggling to keep my body moving in this freezing water.

Our eyes meet and I can tell that she is happy to die knowing that I follow her to the grave. If she can't have me, then neither of us will live to see another day.

My muscles are beginning to cease from the subzero temprature and I know I will need to get some air into my lungs soon. Even though I am a vampire I still need to breathe from time to time.

Her muscles are ceasing and freezing tightly around my body and causing hope to drain from me. She is fast becoming a living anchor that will drag me down into the depths of this lake.

My life flashes before my eyes just like in books and movies.

I see everyone I have ever cared about. I see my mum and dad. I see Declyn, Logan and his wife Jade. I see my grandmother and i see my pregnant best friend Sage. I remember events with each of these people in flashes and pictures before my very eyes just like it were a compliation video.

I see Logan and Jade on their wedding day. I see Declyn teaching me how to load and clean my very first gun. I see Sage laughing with her toddler on her hip and a baby in her belly. I see my mum and dad smiling at me with pride in their eyes.

Then I see Alex. Strong, sweet and amazingly handsome Alex. I see his piercing blue eyes as they followed me my entire life. I see his strong gaze from the first time we met when I was brought to him a prisoner in chains. I see him smiling when I play his drinking games with him. I see his look of devotion when I confess my inner most feelings for him. And I see him as the King he deserves to be.

But what I see next is what changes everything.

I see Annerly. Smiling and beautiful as ever. I see her in Alex's arms as we raise her together. I see her growing up before my eyes and something inside me snaps. I can't miss her growing up. I won't miss that for the world.

I snap my eyes open wide and pool every ounce of strength I possibly have within me and begin to feel the same electricity I felt the day Alex almost died. It is intense and grows so fast within me as I will it to make me stronger than ever.

I let it build to astonishing heights before I let it explode with a mighty scream. I feel myself become electrified as lightning flashes from my body sending electricity coursing through Sabina causing her frozen body to dislodge itself from holding onto me.

The water lights up around us and then goes dark just as the electrical current from within me dissipates and with it, goes Sabina. She begins to sink down into the black water below until nothing is left of her but a memory.

I bring my attention back towards the ice above my head and begin searching for the hole I fell through but it must have already started to close. I can't find it in my panicked state.

I begin wildly hitting at the ice to hopefully bust through but the water is slowing down my muscles and I can barely swing a decent punch at all.

I am starting to give up. I can't survive any longer without air. I'll be dead in under 30 seconds if I don't get out now.

It feels like hope is lost.

That's when it happens.

A fist breaks through the ice right in front of me and grasps hold of my shoulder. It then pulls me from the frigid water and into the winter air saving my life completely.
