Alex's POV
I stare at the picture in my hands and feel my lips turn up into a smile. Evie looks as beautiful as ever and it makes my heart ache.
I memorise the picture and without a second thought, tear the paper in two. Byron's expression becomes confused as Janet merely smiles her perfectly polite smile.
In her mind, she has me by the balls but I have a few aces up my sleeve.
"You have been very busy trying to find someone that doesn't wish to be found," I state as I rip the picture into tiny pieces and scatter them on the table.
"Yes. When it became clear that you would not return the child as per our original arrangement then we had to take matters into our own hands." Janet then retrieves a small mobile phone from her pocket and places it on the table. "One phone call and they will be apprehended. Likewise, if we do not make it back to the zone before sunset."
I lean back in my chair and keep my face void of any emotion.
"You don't know where they are now. You're still looking." I state and from the wide eyes that Byron gives off, I know I am right.
"Its only a matter of time," Janet says coldly causing me to raise a brow at her.
"Stop looking for them," I say harshly.
Janet smiles again. She believes that she has me backed into a corner but the reality is that the tables are indeed reversed.
"And why is that?" She asks.
"Because I have yet another counter to offer." I simply say.
Gable already knows what is about to happen and is by my side handing me an iPad in a flash. I don't miss the gleam of achievement in his eye either. He knows just as well as I do that we are about to win this war.
I turn the iPad on so that it reveals 6 different screens all with a live video feed. I slide the iPad across the table so that it sits directly in front of Janet and watch as her eyes widen when she realises what she is looking at.
"What is this?" Byron asks as he leans over to get a closer look at the tablet.
"What you are both looking at is 6 individual live video feeds from your 6 weapon testing sites outside of Zone Two. Each site has been taken over by vampires and all of the humans are being held hostage as you can well see. Vampires are destroying every piece of technology and weaponry they can as we speak and have been instructed to kill all humans by the end of the hour. Unless of course, I make the call to stop them."
Janet straightens herself and stares at me intently and tries to discover if I am bluffing in the slightest possible way. I, in turn, smile the same perfectly polite smile she seems to love using so much.
"How do we know you aren't bluffing?" She asks coyly. "This could be staged and not even our scientists."
"I actually thought you might say that."
I raise my hand and Gable is at my side in a mere second handing me a mobile phone. I dial Imani's number and then place the phone to my ear. She answers on the first ring and I give her my orders.
"Kill 10 scientists from every site."
Imani doesn't reply but as soon as the words leave my mouth a gasp is heard from Janet as she watches people being slaughtered on the live video feeds.
"Do you believe me know?" I ask setting the phone down.
Janet looks visually paler than before, as does Byron even though he looked away not wanting to witness such ferocious deaths.
