Annora's POV- Sixteen Years Later
I sat at my desk scrolling through my computer looking at the heros that saved our world over forty years ago. I looked especially at one called Gabriel Reyes who shared the same looks as me. Mom always says it's just a coincidence, but I think not. I studied his eyes that look exactly like mine and sighed.
"Anni! I'm back." I got up and ran downstairs to greet the woman I call my mother. She isn't really, I know that. She always tells me that she found me, abandoned in an alleyway just after Overwatch headquarters was destroyed.
"Hey Mom. How was Emily?" I asked, leading her to the dining room table. Mom smiled and took my hand in hers.
"She's doing well. It was nice to see her again. I assume you got your work done?" I nodded and Mom nodded as well. "Good girl." She patted my hair and stood up to go walk to the kitchen. I looked over at her and was tempted to ask her about my parents. So, like an idiot, I did.
"Mom, do you know who my parents are?" She dropped a glass into the sink and it fell with a clatter of the empty plastic sound. I braced myself for the talk that normally followed. I was surprised when that didn't happen. Instead was met with a gentle voice that she used when I was younger and was bullied on a regular basis for my parentage.
"Let me see if I remember. I remember your mother being a wonderful woman who did anything for her family. Unfortunately, she died giving birth to you. And your father, I was told, was a brave man who treated all his comrades as close friends and would do anything for them. We never found out what happened to him, but I'm sure he's fine wherever he is." I raised an eyebrow and nodded.
"I'm going to go do a final run through of my work for school. Call me when dinner's ready." I ran upstairs and into my room. I sat back down at my computer and it opened back up on the Overwatch picture. I bit my lip and looked over all the people in the picture. Mom was there standing next to her friend Angela and her other friend Winston who she tries to talk to on a regular basis. Though Angela is a doctor working in battlefields, she still had time to see her friends.
"Annora, honey. Dinner's ready." I closed the window, and walked downstairs. Mom had closed the windows only because it had started to rain. We sat in silence as we ate our meals, the rain pattering against the windows being the only noise in the house. This was a common staple in our house. An hour of silence before Mom had to leave again to go fight somewhere, even though it was highly illegal.
"Anni, are you ok?" I looked up at Mom who broke the silence. I sighed and set my fork down.
"Mom, you know I love you. But please. I want to know who my real parents are. And not just details about them. I want to know their names. Or at least my dad's name. Please? Please don't keep it from me forever." I heard her sigh and set her fork down as well.
"Annora, I know you want that. I want that as much as you do. But I don't want you to be in danger. I promised Angela that when we found you sixteen years ago. So how about this. You turn seventeen in a week. That will be my birthday present to you. As well as your chance to join me whenever I go out and go fighting. Because I can't shield you from this forever." I smiled and she squeezed my hand.
"Thank you Mom. This means a lot to me." She smiled, stood up, and kissed my forehead.
"You're my little girl. I do what I can." There was a beeping coming from Mom's watch signaling her to danger. "I should go check that out. You know what to do if I'm not back before ten." I nodded and she blinked off towards the direction of the door. I picked up the dishes and cleaned them up before putting them in the dish dryer. I walked back upstairs to my room, laid down on my bed, and thought about what Mom said. One week and I find out who my real parents are. One long week to go.
Reaper's POV
Widowmaker waved at me as I walked through the Talon compound to find Sombra. She's the only one I trust with the information I'm about to tell her. Well, I sort of trust her; she hasn't done a lot to gain my trust. But she's the only one who can help me. I knocked on her door and she opened it for me.
"Ah, Gabe. Is it alright if I call you that?" I rolled my eyes and she giggled. She always does this to annoy me, something she does well.
"Anyway. I need your help."
"My help? Whatever for? As I recall, the famous Reaper doesn't need help from anyone. Man, I should write this date down." I clenched my fists and took deep breaths.
"Yes, your help. Can I trust you with this information?" She sighed and nodded. "Good. I need your help finding someone. And I know you can find people rather quickly."
"Someone? Is it a special person? A girl maybe? A special girl?" Sombra was giggling softly and I sighed, losing my temper quickly. This was the one reason I didn't want to come to her for help because she would tease me and remind me of this later when she wanted something from me.
"Yes, it's a girl. An extremely special girl that I've been looking for for years. A girl named Annora Gabriela Reyes." She stopped giggling and stared at me with confusion.
"A sister? A wife maybe?"
"No, my daughter." She stood up and walked towards me. When she stood two inches from me, she placed a hand on my shoulder.
"You're joking, right? You're just pulling my leg?" I shook my head and shrugged her hand away.
"I lost her just after the fight at the Swiss Headquarters. I thought I would be able to go back to the main building and get her, but when I got there, she was gone and it was guarded by the authorities. It's been sixteen years and I want my daughter back." Sombra looked back at me with concern and nodded.
"I understand. I'll try and find her for you as quick as I can. I can imagine how much you must miss her." I nodded and she went to go sit back down at her small desk. "I'll get on it right away and find you when I find some information." I smiled behind my mask and walked out of her room. Soon I was going to get my little girl back, but only if Sombra can work fast enough.
