Hayden’s P.O.V
1 Month Later…
I hadn’t seen Taylor since the funeral. When I saw her there we didn’t even speak she sat by Aaron’s coffin until they buried him. I had been to her house countless times to give her work but I never actually got a chance to see her. Her mum said she hasn’t been out of her room since Aaron’s death.
I hadn’t seen Kyren in a while either he said all of it was his fault. He was really beating himself up about him. The times I had seen him at school we rarely spoke and he looked like he had the weight of the whole world on his shoulders. Last lesson was over and I was about to leave the classroom when the teacher called me back.
“As you already know we have the end of year trip to the Alps is in 3 weeks.”
“So you want me to go and see if Taylor is coming.”
“You catch on fast, that’s exactly what I want you to do,” she said whilst patting my shoulder and handed me a slip. Everyone including Kyren filled in their form 3 weeks ago.
When I got to her house Kyren was already there but the minute he saw me he quickly got in his car and drove away. I guess he was going to see her but lost the nerve and my appearance just gave him more of a reason to leave. I walked up to the door and knocked. He mum answered the door
“You’re such a good kid, your parents must be so proud of you.”
“Um… My parents died when I was 7.”
“I’m sorry for bringing it up.”
“It’s fine.”
“So what is it today?”
“We have a trip to the Alps in 3 weeks and I came to see if Taylor could come our teacher wants to know.”
“It would be good for her to get out, but I doubt she’ll agree to it.”
“Well its fine if she doesn’t.”
“No she hasn’t been out of her room in a month some air will do her good.”
“Maybe if you say something to her she’ll change her mind.”
We walked into her room. It was so dark I couldn’t even see Taylor. Her mum turned on the lights, Taylor screamed and covered her eyes
“Turn them back off,” she croaked
“No Taylor you need to stop this, it’s been a month now you need to go back to school.”
“Why should I?”
“You are wasting your life away in this room.”
“What do you care?” she spat.
“Watch your tone young lady.”
“Your friend is here to see you be civilised.”
“What does he want?”
“You have a trip in 3 weeks and you are going to that trip,” her mum commanded.
“No I’m not.”
“Honey listen to me you can’t be like this I know Aaron wouldn’t want to see you like this either.”
“WHAT DO YOU KNOW, YOU NEVER KNEW HIM!” she shouted and a tear rolled down her cheek.
“He wouldn’t want to see you like this,” she repeated solemnly
“How would you know? HE’S DEAD!”
Her mum stayed silent for a while then finally said
“Yes he may not be here anymore but tell me if he were here do you think he’d like seeing you act this way?”
She didn’t reply.
I watched silently as she broke down and cried.
