A/N it's the finale 😞

Everything happens for a reason, every single thing.

________

Nonso stood on the balcony of his millions worth apartment in lekki, his hair had grown longer and so had his beards. It had been so long since she last saw him. He started saying something. She payed attention.

"Everything that has happened between us was never meant to be."

"What?"

"It's serendipity, not destiny. Our names were never written in the stars, never foreordained. It wasn't planned."

She jolted up with a start. Beads of sweat rolling down her ebony skin. Her single strapped gown falling of her shoulders and the bed sheet half way down the bed. Her heart raced frantically.

"Nonso."

It was the third time she had the same dream, and every time she often awoke without saying anything, only he spoke. She hadn't seen him since he stormed out of his living room that evening in January. She'd called him once, before she went on the trip with Mitchell for het fashion show. The talk had lasted for sixty seconds and had been filled with awkward greetings and silence. There was still so much unsaid between them and some how, his letter had drained Derin's willpower to fight for them. Nonso was already questioning the relationship.

Mitchell walked into the hotel room. She smiled at Derin.

"Good morning."

Uche walked in behind Mitchell. "Jesus. You aren't even dressed!"

Uche had returned in April, and although she was surprised at Mitchell's new friendship, she hit it off straight with Derin.

Derin rolled her eyes as she scrambled out of bed. The dream still haunted her. She sat up and turned to her friends.

May shouldn't be cold, but it was. It was Nonso's month. On the twenty first, he was to turn twenty eight. Since his letter, everything in her life had become disorganized. She'd lost her job, she'd moved out of his apartment and started staying in Mitchell's one million worth apartment. She'd applied for the job at Jib oil and was waiting patiently to get the job. They said the interviews would be held in june, since the company would be formerly launched in July, they wanted to get everything in order. Derin saw the job as a fresh start if she got it. She'd put Barrister Mitchell as her reference number on her C.V and had also put in her father's name, although the old man was still pissed with her. They were both stubborn and although it took time, she realized that her stubbornness was from him. She'd never known him to be unforgiving but with the stunt she'd pulled in January, he'd said he disowned her. She didn't know if he had meant it, but she knew he had been at fault and the least he could do was be ashamed. So she waited, she waited for him to call over the months, he never did. Jessica had also been pissed, the family wasn't in a good position. But Derin knew that she would make it without him because she'd done it before, she'd do it again.

She stared at Mitchell, she wondered what would have happened to her if Mitchell hadn't been her friend. Mitchell was that one person she didn't deserve, but she got.

Mitchell had been there for her throughout. Mitchell had slipped Derin into some position for her fashion show. She'd named Derin as the dress assessment manager and listed her among the people Jibola Wale of Jib oil was supposed to pay as his contribution to the fashion show. Derin had laughed but she'd been surprised when she got an alert of five hundred thousand.

Finally, the show was a reality, Mitchell's designs were being launched for the world to see. They'd landed port harcout a week ago. Immediately they'd posted on instagram. The picture had been everything beautiful. Derin had been typing into her iPhone and Mitchell had been looking away into the hotel pool. They were both clad in jean shorts and crop tops. Uche had taken the picture. Mitchell had posted it with the hash tag 'bestvren goals' crashing port with my cloth magic. And today, it was going to be a reality.
