Two days later Vrinda was admitted to the hospital as her date of delivery was close. Her gynaecologist told her that her child had changed the position to a horizontal one.

"The child can't come out naturally. It has changed its position last minute, to a horizontal one and in doing so, has wrapped the umbilical cord around its neck. You'll have to be operated." The doctor informed Vrinda.

"Sure, do anything but don't hurt my baby. It's very precious and doctor, can I ask you something?" Vrinda asked nervously.

"Sure, what is it?" Replied the doctor.

"I-is there any risk to my life or to my child, once we go through the operation? If there is, please just save my child. Don't worry about me." Vrinda stated.

"Vrinda, darling, there is no need to be scared about this. I'll make sure that both if you are safe and healthy. Now, tell your family and husband about this so that they can prepare themselves and you too." The doctor said and then went out to inform her crew about the operation.

When Vrinda announced the news to everyone, her sisters along with their husbands and Vrinda's parents came to the hospital to meet her. Everyone was tensed, especially Vrinda's eldest sister because she knew how scared Vrinda was from something as small as a needle and now was about to have a surgical knife cut through her lower stomach.

"Will you be okay, Vrinda?" Asked her eldest sister.

"Yeah, we both will be fine. Don't worry." Vrinda assured her sister, even though she was terrified of the thought of that knife piercing through her stomach.

Vrinda could feel the tension emitting through the stares given by her family and understood it completely. When she was small her mother one day, complained to her of a severe headache shortly after which she fainted. When she was taken to the hospital it was found out that a small nerve had burst in her brain. She had to be operated.

The doctors were uncertain of whether she would survive or not because their was a very high chance that she would suffer from brain haemorrhage and might lose her memory for sometime.

To everyone's surprise, the next day when the doctors did the MRI one last time before the neurosurgeons performed the surgery, the blood clot in her brain had dissolved completely and the vein had been healed with no leakage anywhere, miraculously.

Though she suffered for partial amnesia for a few days but soon everything was normal again. The doctors said that it was a miracle in the history of their several years of practice.

When Vrinda was being taken to the operation theatre, all that her mother told her was to wish for a healthy child. She said,

"Do not wish for a girl or a boy. Just wish for a healthy baby with good fortune."

"Okay mom! And don't worry so much, I'll be safe inside." Consoled Vrinda.

"Okay, all the best my child. Remember that come what may, I will always love you!" her mother said with a lot of affection in her heart and tears in her eyes.

Arjun, on the other hand seemed more nervous than anyone in the room.

"Be careful with my wife. She is too precious to lose." He said to the doctor who had to operate Vrinda.

"Don't worry Arjun. Everything will be fine. I'll do the best I can, okay? Now sit back and relax." The doctor patted Arjun's shoulder and then went in the operation theatre.

"Best of luck babies!" Arjun whispered in Vrinda's ear and then kissed her forehead and her stomach.

"Daddy can't wait to meet you!" He spoke to her stomach, making Vrinda laugh and shake her head at his cuteness.

Just before Vrinda went inside the operation theatre, her mother spoke only two words to her, she said,

"Be strong." Then she heard the door close and the red light switched on above operation theatre.

All that they could do now was wait...

"Give me the fourth blade." Said the doctor to one of her assistants who were present in the theatre to help her carry out the surgery.

"I'm going to sedate you with anaesthesia. You will be unconscious for a while and will wake up to the face your beautiful child." The doctor told Vrinda.

Vrinda was injected with the sedative through an injection at her right arm. He hissed at the pain but was soon consumed by darkness around her.

Once the doctor made sure that Vrinda was unconscious, she started performing the surgery. The whole procedure was complicated since the child had the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck.

"This harder than I thought it was going to be, but we did it. Nurse, write down on the pad, time of birth is a little after one am, weight is three kilograms and is nineteen and a half inches." The doctor said and the nurse scribbled down the details swiftly.

Then they took the baby to another room to clean it and return it to its parents and family.

The operation took almost three hours but it was successful. Both the baby and the mother were safe and healthy.

Arjun, on the other hand, paced around the hall and glanced at the gate of the theatre every now and then. He was very scarred and nervous and didn't know how to voice his fears to anyone.

"Everything will be fine, relax. They both will be with you by the end of the day." Said Vrinda's eldest sister, reassuring Arjun. He just nodded and smiled at her but wasn't convinced. It had been an hour since his wife and child were inside. He had to see them.

After another half an hour, when Arjun was becoming very fidgety, a nurse came smiling towards him and asked,

"Sir, can I ask you a question?"

"Yes, sure!" Arjun replied.

"What do you expect, a boy or a girl?" Asked the nurse.

Arjun thought for a while and then replied, "Okay, here's the deal, If I'm blessed with a boy, I'll treat you with a pastry; if it's a girl I'll give you whatever you want!"

The nurse was very surprised to hear the answer but smiled nevertheless and replied,

"Thank God, I like the people who wish for a baby and not the gender. I've had patients who've tried to bribe me to exchange their babies if they have a girl child!"

"Well, they are idiots." Replied Arjun.

After talking to him for a little while, the nurse went away to go on her regular rounds to the different wards.

After almost three hours of watching the red light constantly, as soon as it went dull, all her family members rushed towards the gate of the theatre.

"Is she okay? Is my child okay? Say something, please?" Arjun bombarded the nurse with his questions.

He saw that it was the same nurse who had met her earlier that had come out of the operation theatre. He saw that she had a huge smile on her face and she said,

"Well, I think you should go get me a box of chocolates instead because you just got your wish. You are blessed with a baby girl who's perfectly healthy, along with her mother. You are a very lucky man, Mr. Kaushik." The nurse said and then went back to the room where she came from.
