Kabir's line was silent for a while and Kiara called his name again to check if he was still there.
"Hello? Kabir? Are yo- you there?" She asked, nervously.
"I am, it's just, I missed your voice. So damn much." Kabir whispered and the words struck a chord in Kiara's heart. He didn't mean for her to listen to the last sentence but she heard it clear as a day.
"I missed you, Kabir. How are you?" She asked while her head was swirling around the old memories that they shared.
"I'm good. How are you?"
Kiara ignored his question because she broke away from the memories and started thinking with her mind back in the present.
"Hold on, back up, how did you know that Austin and I were talking?"
Kabir chuckled nervously and Kiara wondered if he still rubbed the back of his neck the way he used to back then, whenever he got nervous. His voice snapped her back to reality and she heard him saying.
"- you guys were FaceTiming one day and I just dropped by to his place for our video game day. You remember we used to do that ritually on every Friday?"
"You still do that?" Kiara asked, with astonished voice.
"Yep, we never really stopped it. Anyway, I asked him who he was talking to and he immediately looked at me in a way that told me to shut my mouth. I sat silently in the room for a while before I registered your voice from the other end and I thought my mind was playing games with me. I dismissed the thought that it could be you and just started scrolling through my phone but your voice was so familiar to me that I could not help but go and stand behind his laptop to ask him. It was then that you asked him-"
"Who he was looking at and he said his dog!" Kiara completed his sentence.
"Yes. You have no idea how intense the news was to me when Austin told me that it was you on the other end. I had never stopped thinking of you, Kiara. It's like you never left my mind. I wanted to see you so badly." Kabir said and sighed when he came clean to her.
"Kabir." Kiara sighed his name and then continued after taking a moment to let everything she heard sink in.
"You never left my mind too. Why didn't you ever join the call then?"
"Because I didn't want to just randomly jump back in your life, Kiara. You and I both know what we shared back then was much more than just a regular friendship. Honestly, I wasn't sure I was ready to see or talk to you before." Kabir said.
"It's been a long time since that talk in Canada, Kabir. We've come a long way since then." Kiara replied, processing all the new information she was receiving in one night.
"Yeah, but you see, I asked the girl a question back then and she kind of left me hanging so I am waiting for her to answer me." Kabir said with a smirk in his voice and Kiara immediately knew he was talking about the confession. She smiled at this comment of his and said,
"You just haven't changed at all, have you?"
"Why? Did you want me to change?" Kabir asked.
"Not at all." Kiara replied, her voice getting sleepy again.
